Universitas Hasanuddin through the Faculty of Animal Husbandry established The 2nd International Conference of Animal Science and Technology (ICAST II) under the theme of “Sustainable Animal Production and Welfare in the Tropical Environment”. The ICAST II 2019 was held at Swiss Bell-in Hotel Makassar, on Tuesday (5/10).
The event invited several keynote speakers from abroad, Prof. Dr. Danilda Hufana Duran (Philippines), Prof. Dr. Metha Wanapat (Thailand), Dr. drh. Gozali R. Moekti, M.Sc (Brunei Darussalam), and Dana Chow, MBA (Singapore).
Moreover, the event also invited some Indonesian speakers, Prof. Dr. Ir. Cece Sumantri, M.Sc (Institut Pertanian Bogor), Prof. Ir. Burhanuddin Sundu, M.Sc., Ph.D (Universitas Tadulako), Dr. Ir. Syahruddin Said, M. Agr. Sc. (Himpunan Ilmuwan Peternakan Indonesia), and Ir. Teddy Candinegara (Behn Meyer Chemical Indonesia).
The ICAST II was opened by Andi Sudirman Sulaiman, S.T., the Deputy Governor of South Sulawesi. The Head of Animal Husbandry and Health Department, Province of South Sulawesi, Ir. H. Abdul Azis, M.M. also attended the event.
In her remark, the Rector of Universitas Hasanuddin, Prof. Dr. Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu, MA, warmly welcomed the guests and delegations. She said that this event was expected to be a forum for the experts to discuss problems and find solutions.
"The ICAST II 2019 hopefully can become a forum to produce the latest concepts related to the development of technology and animal husbandry," said Prof. Dwia.
She conveyed her thankfulness to all committees and academics community who contributed in this event. Unhas routinely holds international conferences and it becomes priority to improve the quality and connections of researchers, as well as a forum for sharing knowledge.
As a part of the event, Decree of Honorary Foreign Lecturer (Honorary Lecturer) given to two foreign lecturers, Pregirino Ginaldo Duran, and Prof. Dr. Danilda Hufana Duran. The Decree was immediately handed over by the Rector of Unhas to these two foreign lecturers.
Deputy Governor of South Sulawesi, in his remark, stated that by this International Conference it is expected to find solutions and innovations that can be useful for South Sulawesi Government in increasing livestock production.
"South Sulawesi wants to have one achievement, which is to increase the amount of production and quality of the cows we have," said Deputy Governor.
Andi Sudirman also thanked Unhas for organizing the event. He invited the audiences to proceed to achieve a common goal. He hoped Unhas can produce many future generations who will become leaders, especially for South Sulawesi.
Furthermore, the Deputy Governor, Andi Sudirman Sulaiman opened ICAST II 2019 officially marked by the beating of the gong. (*)
