Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas), through the Faculty of Medicine of Unhas in collaboration with Erasmus Medical Center based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, held a public lecture at the Faculty of Medicine, Senate Room, Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar, on Friday (06/03).
Public lecturers Invited some speakers from Erasmus Medical Center, namely Dr. Hok Bing Thio, MD., Ph.D., (Head of the Erasmus MC Dermatology Department), Jan (Leender) Nouwen, MD., Ph.D (Erasmus MC Masters Education Research Coordinator), Raoul Tan Hadinagoro, Ph.D., KRT (Erasmus MC Research Development Office), and Gijsbertus (Bert) TJ Van Der Horst (Erasmus MC Genetic Professor).
Starting the activity, the Vice-Dean for Research of Faculty of Medcine, Rina Masadah, MD., M.Phil., Ph.D., Sp.PA (K)., strongly apreciated the willingness of Erasmus Medical Center delegates to share knowledge, information, and experience at Unhas.
According to Rina, this activity could be a forum for lecturers and students of Universitas Hasanuddin to update their information about the world of health, considering that Erasmus MC is a higher educational institution that focuses on developing public health.
"Our speakers come to share knowledge related their respective fields. After giving a Public Lecture, it will be continued by giving material to graduate students in international classes that we have," explained Rina.
On occasion, Raoul Tan Hadinagoro, Ph.D., KRT, one of the speakers, presented a material entitled "International Research by Collaborations: 10 Years of International Collaboration at Erasmus MC – Can We Take It a Step Further?".
In his material, Raoul introduced Erasmus MC, including the activities that had been carried out. This institution is committed to delivering superior health services, based on research, innovation, and collaboration.
"Erasmus MC has around 1,500 residents, 1,530 Ph.D. students, and 800 specialists, who focus on research and innovation, education, training, and health services by providing comprehensive care. For Indonesia, we have also collaborated with research on Internal Disease, which involved master and doctoral students. Erasmus MC also has alumni from Indonesia," said Raoul.
Gijsbertus (Bert) T. J. Van Der Horst was the second presenter, with a material entitled "Good Times, Bad Times: The Circadian Clock in Healt and Disease".
Van Der Horst revealed that circadian clock (Circadian Rhythm) is a biological process of the body that is formed endogenously by the body in a period of about 24 hours.
The body's biological clock is a collection of molecules in cells throughout the body which are then coordinated by the main biological clocks located in the brain and makes other biological clocks synchronized well.
After all the speakers explained their materials, it continued with a discussion and question and answer session. Participants who were dominated by master and doctoral students actively asked questions until the end of the public lecture at 12.00 Wita. (*)
