MAKASSAR – Hasanuddin University (Unhas) held technical guidance (Bimtek) on filling in and updating public information documents, attended by Information and Documentation Management Officers (PPID) at the faculty and school level. The event took place at the Hall of the Institute for Quality Assurance and Education Development (LPMPP) of Unhas on Tuesday, 29 September 2026.

In the remarks of the Secretary of Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr. Eng. Amiruddin, stressed the importance of paying greater attention to public information management, particularly among those with an active role in information transparency, including Public Relations (Humas) and PPID staff.

“More attention is needed on public information, especially from those who play an active role in it. Public Relations and PPID managers are expected to contribute equally so that they can achieve public information transparency on a large scale,” said Prof. Amiruddin.

Prof. Amiruddin further urged faculty- and school-level PPIDs not to struggle to find references on public information. According to Prof. Amiruddin, Unhas already has an information service channel that can serve as a reference for a good model of public information management.

The Bimtek is part of the monitoring and evaluation of the Self Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ) on Information Transparency. Besides evaluation, the event serves as a space to gather input and draw up follow-up steps to strengthen information and documentation management across Unhas.

Dr. Muliadi Mau, a lecturer in Communication Science at Unhas, delivered a session on the classification of public information. There are three groups of information that need attention in implementing public information transparency: information that must be announced periodically, information that is available at all times, and exempted information.

Periodic information is information that a public body is required to announce routinely. Meanwhile, information available at all times is information that must be available and can be provided whenever the public needs it.

“Exempted information is information that has undergone a consequence test. So, there is a process that must be carried out before information is declared exempt. Information must not simply be withheld from the public just because it is considered sensitive,” said Muliadi.

The Head of the Unhas Integrated Service Unit (ULT), Dr. Ahmad Bahar, also gave guidance on managing and filling in information on the PPID website.

Dr. Bahar stressed the importance of updating information regularly on the PPID page. Managing the website is not only about the completeness of information, but also about ensuring that the available information remains current and easily accessible to the public.

Prof. Amiruddin also reminded participants that public bodies are obliged to provide information in accordance with laws and regulations. Failure to comply with this obligation can have legal consequences.

In last year’s PPID evaluation, three faculties achieved the best results in PPID management at Unhas. However, Dr. Bahar cautioned that this achievement should not be treated as the only benchmark.

“The assessment team may take different samples. Therefore, all faculties and schools need to prepare their PPID management well,” said Dr. Bahar.

Through the monitoring and evaluation (Monev) activity, Unhas encourages all faculties and schools to be more active in managing public information, updating information on the PPID page, and ensuring that all information presented complies with public information transparency regulations.(*/ams)
