Collaboration between Hasanuddin University and Arizona State University on Higher Education Partnership Initiative (HEPI) 

Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) and Arizona State University (ASU) agreed to work together to improve the quality of education on an international scale through the United States Agency International Development – Higher Education Partnership Initiative (USAID-HEPI) collaboration program. As a result, the Vice-Rector for Partnership, Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Business, Prof. Dr. Eng. Adi Maulana, M.Phil and ASU Associate Provost of Southeast Asia, Jeffrey Goss, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which was witnessed by the Rector of UNHAS Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc., well known as Prof. JJ on Tuesday 14 Feb 2023.

“Various strategic steps continue to be maximized so that the academic activities carried out provide benefits by producing globally competitive graduates. UNHAS is very pleased to welcome this collaboration to optimize the quality and quality of education which of course has an impact on the quality of competitive graduates,” said Prof JJ.

The ceremony was also attended by Katy Wigal (Director for Global Operations of ASU), Abdul Rahman (HEPI Country Director), Farhad Ghaussy (Director of Economic Growth and Education, USAID Indonesia), and Jalu Cahyanto (USAID Indonesia). From UNHAS representatives, Prof. Sumbangan Baja (University Secretary), Prof. Musrizal Muin (Head of Quality Assurance and Education Development), Ansariadi, Ph.D. (Director of Partnerships), and several other UNHAS leaders. 

The HEPI Project is an ongoing partnership program between the United States, Indonesian higher education institutions, and the private sector to enhance student’s skills and competencies through internationally recognized, high-quality degrees and industry credentials. Alignments have been made with the Indonesian government’s strategic priority programs, focusing on accreditation as an ongoing organizing and motivating framework.

Representing USAID HEPI, Abdul Rahman expressed his pleasure at UNHAS’ involvement in the program. According to him, UNHAS is a tertiary institution with many proud achievements. He said the UNHAS collaboration would produce a long-term cooperation model to encourage a generation of young innovators and entrepreneurs. The ceremony ended and continued with Campus Tour.
