Faculty of Engineering of Universitas Hasanuddin Distributed Hand Washing Machines to the Community

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Faculty of Engineering (FT) of Universitas Hasanuddin in collaboration with the Student Affairs and Alumni Division launched the Village Development Program as a form of community service.

The Village Development Program is a grant from the Director General of Higher Education Ministry which is offered annually to student organizations to take a role in community empowerment. In connection with the existance of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Village Development Program for each faculty at Unhas was transformed to the Covid-19 Thematic Village Development.

Vice-Dean of Student Affairs, Alumni, and Partnership of Faculty of Engineering, Ir. Mukti Ali, ST., MT., Ph.D., explained that the Village Development Program was established for helping the community to prevent the spread of the Covid-19. For this activity, the Faculty of Engineering designed the theme of "Making Hand Washing Using Foot Pedals and the Socialization of Good and Proper Handwashing".

"Universitas Hasanuddin through the Faculty of Engineering collaborates with the Student Organization (OKFT-UH) to form a team to make manual handwashing tools using simple foot pedals. These tools are then donated to several public places in Gowa Regency," explained Mukti.

The Village Development Program has started since Wednesday (22/04) and is scheduled to end on Thursday (30/04) in Gowa Regency. the Faculty of Engineering distributed hand washing tools to the community and educated them about proper and correct hand washing.

"The number of hand washers that will be distributed is four units. The distribution of the first hand washer has been handed over to the Moncobalang Health Center, Barombong District, Gowa Regency on Thursday, April 23, 2020," added Mukti.

The three other hand washer units will be distributed again to each of the Health Center in Bontomarannu District, Police Departemen of Bontomarannu, and Harun Ar-Rasyid Bontomarannu Mosque in Gowa Regency.

At the end of the interview, Ir. Mukti Ali, ST., MT., Ph.D., hopes that this activity can educate the public about healthy lifestyles to prevent and break the chain of Covid-19 transmission. (* / Mir)
