Faculty of Nursing Held a Guest Lecture on eHealth Application by Experts from the Netherlands

Faculty of Nursing of Universitas Hasanuddin (FKep Unhas) held a guest lecture with the theme “eHealth & The Application of eHealth: Lesson Learned from the Netherlands”. The speakers were Hyllan Weijer, M.Ed., RN and Judith R. Pellicaan, M.Sc., BsN, senior lecturers from Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen, the Netherlands.

The activity was established offline in Prof. Fachruddin Hall, Postgraduate School, Unhas Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar, on Tuesday (14/06).

To begin with, the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of FKep Unhas, Syahrul Said, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kes., explained that FKep Unhas and Hanze have long established partnerships, one of which is through the student Inbound program. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the partnership and communication between the two institutions remain well established.

“Regarding the theme of today’s discussion, it is very interesting. Along with technological developments, adjustment efforts are also made in the medical world. Therefore, I hope that the participants can follow the material well and gain information and knowledge from the two speakers,” explained Ns. Syahrul.

Hyllan Weijer started his lecture by introducing Hanze University to the participants. Hanze University has 220 lecturers, 99 Ph.D. students, and 4,136 alumni. The main focus of this study is on the fields of energy, entrepreneurship, and health.

Hyllan Weijer explained that eHealth is a new field of science that has innovations in the exchange of medical information, public health, and matters relating to services and health information that are improved through internet channels and technology.

“The implementation of eHealth will reduce medical errors by using computerized prescriptions to improve patient safety and maintain detailed, legible medical records, accessible and available to all healthcare providers, and allow patients to access their own medical information,” Hyllan explained.

Furthermore, Hyllan Weijer added that in the implementation of eHealth, there are several challenges faced, for example, related to human resources that certainly require training, high system costs, difficult information to transfer between hospitals, including hackers.

“Many positive responses have been given by patients with the implementation of eHealth in the Netherlands, they say it helps health care and social support systems, and they also feel actively involved in health issues. They are also able to read health information directly in their homes,” Hyllan added.

After the presentation, the event moved to a discussion session with the participants. The activity, which was attended by approximately 100 people, went smoothly until 12:00 WITA. (*/mir)
