Hasanuddin University Collaborates with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry to Hold a Public Lecture on the Implementation Policy of FOLU NET SINK 2030

Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan or KLHK) organized a public lecture on “Policy and Implementation of Indonesia’s Forestry and Otherland Uses FOLU NET SINK 2030 for NDC Achievement”.

The activity that brought the Director General of Forestry Planning and Environmental Management (Dr. Ir. Ruandha Agung Soegardiman, M.Sc) as a speaker took place at Prof. Amiruddin Hall, Faculty of Medicine, Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar, Friday (21/10).

Starting the activity, the Dean of the Faculty of Forestry Unhas Dr. A. Mujetahid M, S.Hut., M.P., in his speech expressed his gratitude for the attendance of the speaker to share information about the direction and policies of KLHK in efforts to deal with climate change issues.

He said that the Faculty of Forestry Unhas would continue to commit to working together with KLHK in supporting various policies related to addressing climate change issues.

The activity was officially opened by the Rector of Unhas, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc usually called Prof. JJ. In his remarks, Prof. JJ gave appreciation for the various efforts of KLHK to deal with climate change issues, one of which was the strategic step of achieving GHG emission reduction.

Prof. JJ said that as a university, Unhas is also fully committed to supporting this. This is through the declaration of itself as a campus towards carbon-neutral campus.

“We start slowly doing small things as a first step. There is no choice, we have seen and felt the impact of climate change on life in various sectors. Therefore, real action is needed in providing solutions to climate change through various scientific aspects,” explained Prof. JJ.

After the official opening, it was followed by the presentation of material by Dr. Ir. Ruandha Agung Soegardiman, M.Sc. In his speech, Ruandha explained that the issue of climate change is one of the threats that needs to get the attention of all elements of society. He said that a strong foundation is required regarding environmental and climate protection.

“All parties, cross-generational, cross-disciplinary and cross-sector to collectively participate in developing innovations and solutions in all areas of life. Climate change in general is caused by global warming which certainly has an impact on many things, for this reason, mitigation and adaptation are needed,” explained Ruandha.

On this occasion, Unhas also received a microlight trike aircraft grant. Microlight trike is useful in supporting forest and environmental management activities such as forest security, aerial patrols, supervision, and control of forest areas and the environment.

Microlight trikes can also be used in hotspot monitoring, forest fire prevention and control, boundary mapping and accelerating the process of determining forest areas to be used in rapid response to natural disasters, seed dispersal, and pest and disease control.

In this activity, the participants, approximately 400 people, actively asked questions to the speakers. The whole series of activities went smoothly and enthusiastically until 12.00 WITA.
