As a form of commitment to the environmental sustainability of the Wallacea region, Hasanuddin University (Unhas) held a workshop on “Accelerating the Development of the Wallacea Research Institute”. The activity took place at 09.30 Wita in Meeting Room A, LPPM Building, Unhas Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar, Tuesday (16/01).
Starting the activity, the Rector of Unhas Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc., in his speech said, that this activity in general was the first step of commitment in preparing in-depth towards the construction of the Wallacea Research Institute.
Furthermore, Prof. JJ emphasized the importance of building the Wallacea Research Institute as a strategic step as well as Unhas’ contribution as a university in maintaining the biodiversity and ecosystems of the Wallacea region. He hopes that this activity will produce a roadmap to realize this.
“We have discussed this for a long time, we hope that the realization can be realized soon, slowly but surely. We have a strong institution, the development of education to strengthen Wallacea cannot be missed. This is also part of Unhas’ contribution to Indonesia, “explained Prof. JJ.
On this occasion, three main speakers were presented, one of them was Prof. Dr. Sangkot Marzuki, M.Sc., Ph.D., D.Sc., and Prof. Dr. Irawan Yusuf, Ph.D. The speakers gave an overview of the indicators and scope of research that will be developed and other things that need to be considered together in supporting the formation of the Wallacea Research Institute.
The whole series of activities went smoothly, the Unhas researchers who attended gave each other an overview and their views on things that must be strengthened in supporting the formation of the Wallacea Research Institute. The activity is scheduled to last until 15.00 Wita.
