Faculty of Nursing of Universitas Hasanuddin (FKep Unhas) established a guest lecture on “Global Perspective on Maternity Care” by Dr. Louise Walker (Associate Professor Midwifery Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences University of Nottingham).
The lecture started at 09.00 WITA in Prof. Fachruddin Hall, Graduate School, Tamalanrea Campus, on Thursday (09/06).
Vice-dean for Academic, Research, and Innovation, Syahrul Said, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kes., Ph.D., officially opened the event. In his remarks, he welcomed the speakers who were willing to come directly to provide knowledge and share their experiences in the field of Midwifery Clinical Practice.
“This is a very valuable opportunity to gain new insights and educational information in seeing the development of the health world abroad,” Syahrul said.
In her presentation, Dr. Louise Walker explained the regulation of professional standards of education, training and behavior, and performance of the midwifery profession.
Dr. Louise said that globally, quality midwifery education is needed in reducing the number of maternal and child mortality during labor, as well as providing postpartum care.
“Midwifery education standards have a direct relationship with the quality of midwifery care. Midwives who are educated according to competency standards can improve overall health care services to save the lives of mothers and babies in the birth process,” explained Dr. Louise.
Furthermore, Dr. Louise explained that midwifery professionalism is strengthened in clinical practice, education, and research in improving collaborative health systems, to provide health services for mothers and babies.
After the presentation of the material, the activity then continued with a discussion and QnA session which was attended by approximately 100 participants from lecturers and students of FKep Unhas. The activity was guided by Framita Rahman, S.Kep., Ns., MSc., (FKep Unhas Lecturer) as moderator.
