The online lecture was held on Friday, 22 May 2026, and brought together undergraduate dental students, postgraduate residents, and faculty members from the Faculty of Dentistry, UNHAS. The event served as an important platform for international academic exchange and knowledge sharing in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery

During the session, Prof. Shimo delivered a lecture entitled “Closed Method Tooth Extraction: Instruments and Procedures.” The presentation provided a comprehensive overview of the principles and techniques of closed tooth extraction, including the selection and proper use of extraction instruments, surgical procedures, patient assessment, and strategies for minimizing complications during treatment.

Drawing on his extensive clinical and academic experience, Prof. Shimo emphasized the importance of mastering fundamental extraction techniques as a cornerstone of oral surgical practice. Participants gained valuable insights into evidence-based approaches, procedural efficiency, and patient safety considerations that are essential for successful tooth extraction procedures.

The lecture also highlighted advances in clinical practice and the role of proper treatment planning in achieving predictable outcomes. Through detailed explanations and clinical examples, participants were encouraged to develop a deeper understanding of oral surgery principles and their application in everyday dental practice.

The interactive question-and-answer session that followed allowed students and residents to engage directly with the speaker. Participants discussed clinical challenges, case management strategies, and best practices in minor oral surgery, creating a dynamic learning environment and fostering meaningful academic dialogue between Indonesia and Japan.

This international lecture reflects the FKG UNHAS’ commitment to enhancing the quality of dental education through global collaboration. By connecting students and residents with internationally recognized experts, the faculty continues to provide opportunities for exposure to contemporary knowledge, research developments, and clinical innovations in dentistry.

The event also strengthened the academic relationship between UNHAS and the Health Sciences University of Hokkaido, paving the way for future collaborations in education, research, and professional development.
