The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) of Universitas Hasanuddin held an international conference entitled “The 6th International Conference on Accounting, Management, and Economics (ICAME)” under the theme “Organizational Transformation Synergy in the New Normal Era”.
The activity took place virtually through the Zoom meeting application starting at 08.30 WITA on Wednesday (15/12).
This conference presented keynote speakers,i.e. Arnold Jayaputra B.Sc., MBA., Ph.D. (The University of Western Australia), Ass. Prof. Desi Arisandi, Ph.D. (Singapore Institute of Technology), Prof. Ian Douglas Miles (University of Manchester, UK), dan Prof. Dr. Marzuki, DEA., Ph.D. (Universitas Hasanuddin, Indonesia).
Commencing the event, the Dean of FEB Unhas, Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahman Kadir, M.Si, CIPM., explained that the Covid-19 pandemic had affected various sectors, including the economy and new economic policies were established adapted to the new normal era, which generated significant impact. Thus, collaboration with various parties is needed to optimize the transformation of the economy in the current new normal era.
“This conference is significant for scientific papers publication and can bestow a positive contribution to mapping Indonesia’s future development. Besides, it is hoped that this conference can be a great forum to provide discussion and information regarding the new economic policies in the post-pandemic era. “Explained Prof. Rahman.
The activity was officially opened by the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Unhas, Prof. dr. Moh. Nasrum Massi, Sp.MK, Ph.D. In his remarks, he appreciated the initiative and commitment of FEB Unhas to hold this conference. He explained that the economic sector has a significant role in Indonesia’s development which thus requires serious concerns from parties to maintain the country’s stability.
“I believe ICAME can be a forum for gathering researchers to work hand in hand to produce advantageous ideas to maintain economic stability in the era of the Covid-19 pandemic,” Prof. Nasrum said.
After the official opening, the activity proceeded with a material presentation from the speakers.
The initial material was delivered by Ass. Prof. Desi Arisandi, Ph.D. on “Applied Research Showcase”. He provided an example of the application of management-based accounting. Credit Counseling Singapore (CCS), a charitable organization, helps people in Singapore pay off their unsecured debts through the Debt Management Program (DMP).
CCS is the only organization recognized by The Association of Banks in Singapore (ABS) for its commitment to helping individuals in debt cope with unsecured debt through counselling, education, and facilitating debt repayment arrangements.
“There are several projects currently being run, such as On-ChainScan, which is a scanner of smart contract vulnerability using online-based blockchain, and sustainable marine transportation by utilizing ship energy systems and environmental technology,” explained Desi.
Another material was also delivered by Arnold Jayaputra B.Sc., MBA., Ph.D., regarding “Discovering the Role of Digital Innovation during COVID-19-Evidence from IDX firms”. He said, since the pandemic, there has been a decline in the global economy of approximately 3%. Indonesia experiences a drop of 2% recorded from 4.97% to 2.97%.
Roughly 70% of Indonesian consumers have used at least one digital-based service during the pandemic, for example, the pattern of shopping behaviour. Data shows that 60% of consumer growth is purchasing online for most of the products they need.
“Digitalization is unavoidable. Most of the activities around the world are digitalized during the pandemic utilizing more the power of technology, including Indonesia. There are several challenges of digitalization in Indonesia, such as the lack of human resources that are highly capable of technology use. 75% of tech company executives surveyed consider that recruiting local tech talent is difficult,” Arnold explained.
After the speakers’ presentations, the activity was followed by a discussion and question and answer session. The participants actively addressed queries and responses to the speakers. Also, it was followed by a parallel session, a paper presentation of the participants. The conference is scheduled to last until tomorrow, Thursday (16/12).
