Faculty of Medicine (Fakultas Kedokteran/FK) of Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas) conducted an International Conference on Technology Enhanced Medical Education (THEME) 2019. The conference was attended by 262 participants from Indonesia and abroad. It took 2 days to finish the conference, from Friday to Sunday (6-8/12).
The opening ceremony of THEME 2019 took place at Pool Side Hotel Claro, Jl. A.P. Pettarani, Makassar, on Friday (6/12) at 19.30 WITA. The opening was attended by the Rector of Unhas, Prof. Dr. Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu, MA, all the Deans of Unhas, keynote speakers, invited speakers, and a hundred of participants. There were also the Deans of the Faculty of Medicine from various universities around Indonesia.
The conference set a theme of “From Digital to Humanis”. 7 keynote speakers would share their ideas and thoughts, namely:
1. Prof. P.G.M. De Jong (Leiden University, Netherland)
2. Prof. Hirotaka Onishi (Tokyo University, Japan)
3. Prof. Irawan Yusuf (Universitas Hasanuddin, Indonesia)
4. Michael Erlichster (The University of Melbourne, Australia)
5. Nabishah Mohamad (Management and Science University, Malaysia)
6. Cheng Hwee Ming (University of Malaya, Malaysia)
7. Prof. dr. Budu, Ph.D (Universitas Hasanuddin, Indonesia)
The conference topic related to “Enhancing Professionalism and Technology in Health Education to Overcome Triple Burden Diseases”. The Participants presented their original articles related to the theme of the conference regarding the framework of Technology Enhanced Medical Education.
The dean of Faculty of Medicine of Unhas, Prof. dr. Budu, Ph.D, SpM, M.Med.Ed, said that the International Conference on Medical Education Technology is the first-established conference in Indonesia, especially at Universitas Hasanuddin.
“in the Faculty of Medicine of Unhas has conducted many international events, such as public lectures, seminars, and conferences. However, this is the first conducted international conference with the theme of Medical Education Technology” said Prof. Budu.
Before starting the conference, The Faculty of Medicine Unhas facilitated the visit of the deans of the Faculty of Medicine throughout Indonesia to Tana Toraja Regency. The visit was considered by Prof. Budu as a very productive activity.
“Alhamdulillah, we succeed to sign an MoU for collaboration between Tana Toraja Government and The deans of Faculty of Medicine throughout Indonesia,” Said Prof Budu.
On the same occasion, the rector of Unhas, Prof. Dr. Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu, MA, confessed her appreciation and respect for the initiative from the Faculty of Medicine to conduct the conference. She realized how difficult it was to organize an international conference like this along with the internal and external pressure.
“this year, we have established more than 20 international conferences from various faculties. I know that the organizers were dealing with lots of challenges. Starting from preparing themes, contacting international speakers and ensuring their presence, managing papers including the review process. Therefore, I always appreciate the organizers who have spent their time and energy to conduct International Conferences.” Said Prof. Dwia.
The Conference then was officially opened by the Rector, together with the Dean of Faculty of Medicine and the Chief of Committee. Presentation Session by keynote speakers and Paper presentation by participants took place at Hotel Claro on Saturday (7/12) and Sunday (8/12).(*)
