Students of the National Community Service Program 2016 that was assigned to the Sub-District of Cate, Galang District, in the city of Batam, discovered many marine tourism objects while conducting their community service program in the Riau Islands, facilitated by the Maritim Raja Ali Haji University (UMRAH), Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands.
“We discovered many marine tourism objects that have yet to be utilized by the Government of Riau Island. It was also evident that the present tourism objects have yet to be optimized in a maximal effort,” stated Olivia, representing the 565 students of the Nationality Community Service Program 2016 in the Maritim Raja Ali Haji University (UMRAH) Tanjungpinang, in the Hall of the Riau Island Governor Office, Tanjungpinang (26/8) night.
Directorate-General Belmawa Ministry of Research, Innovation, and Higher Education Intan Ahmad that closed the Nationality Community Service Program 2016 strengthened, that the community service taking place in the region will not be experienced by any other students. The experiences are of a once in a lifetime experience in the processes of students in learning the communities, a vital foundation of being a leader in the future.
UMRAH Rector, Prof. Dr. Syafsir Akhlus, M.Sc stated, that the Nationality Community Service Program consists of 44 Higher Education Institutions of all Indonesia, one Higher Education Institution from Malaysia (Universiti Teknologi Malaysia), and a participant from Iraq. The overall length of the program lasted 30 days. The students are spread among four regencies, including Lingga, Karimun Island, Batam City, and Bintan Island. In Saturday and Monday, the students will return to their respective home cities.
Head of the Community Service Program Technical Conduct Unit, Dr. Hasrullah, M.A. known as one of the three founders of the Nationality Community Service Program, along with Drh. Irkham (UGM) and Dr. Ferry (UNAND Padang) stated, that in 2017 Universitas Negeri Gorontalo (UNG) will be the host of the upcoming 5th Nationality Community Service Program.
