Supporting Sustainable Development, Unhas Center for Environmental Studies Holds International Conference

The development of the world which is also currently facing various problems in the environment, raises the heat to find solutions to solve and solve these problems. Unhas, which is part of the community, contributes in providing and carrying out solutions to solve environmental problems.

Located at the Four Points Makassar hotel, the Center for Environmental Studies of Universitas Hasanuddin held The 1st International Conference on Environment and Sustainable Development (The 1st ICESD) on Thursday (28/11). The activity began at 09.00 WITA, under the theme "Environmental Quality Degradation: Turning Point to Sustainable Economics, Ecology and Equity".

This conference invited the main speaker, Prof. Kono Yasuyuki (Kyoto University, Japan), Dr. Muqtada Ali Khan (Universiti of Malaysia Kelantan), and Prof. Dr. Dadang A. Suriamihardja, M.Eng.(Universitas Hasanuddin).

Chair of the Committee, Dr. Eng. Alimuddin Assegaf, M.Eng., said that the discussed topic in this conference involved almost all fields of study in Unhas. This theme has made the community must pay attention to environmental degradation. There is degradation that must be suppressed as a turning point for a sustainable economy.

"In the future, we will recommend things that need to be done in sustainable development, especially with regard to environmental aspects," said Dr. Alimuddin

Prof. Dr. Ir. Muh Restu, MP as Vice Rector for Academic Affairs welcomed the keynote speakers and all participants who attended The 1st ICESD. He in his remarks stated that this international conference was held as a form of Unhas commitment in protecting the environment and sustainable development, as well as the efforts made by Unhas in reducing the number of stunting in this region.

"The solution that will be produced from this conference must focus on improving the quality of life, the environment with the essence of justice, economy, and ecology," Prof. Restu.

Unhas, which is a stakeholder in the community, has many solutive activities and programs to solve problems, especially in the South Sulawesi region.

Prof. Restu ended his remarks by thanking the committee who had worked hard in making this international conference a success, also to the speakers who had attended and would exchange ideas, insights, and solutions with other participants.

After giving his speech, Prof. Restu then officially opened The 1st ICESD marked by the beating of the drum. After the opening ceremony, Dr. Rijal Idrus as the moderator immediately took over the activities and started the conference by reading topics that will be presented by keynote speakers. (*)
