The Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN established a Soft Launching of the ASEAN-China Study Center at Hasanuddin University

Ambassador of the People's Republic for China to ASEAN, H. E. Huang Xilian visited Hasanuddin University. This visit was held in the context of the soft launching for the "Center for ASEAN-China Studies and Exchange" conducted by the Mandarin Language Center Unhas. This Soft Launching took place at the IPTEKS Building, Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar, on Thursday (12/09).

Center for ASEAN-China Studies and Exchange is a center of learning, training of technical and professional personnel, promotion of teaching staff and student exchange between China and Indonesia, research and special promotions in the field of tourism, and distribution of information on the ASEAN Summer Camp program and Scholarships.

Soft Launching Centre for ASEAN-China Studies and Exchange was marked by unveiling the center signboard by H.E. Huang Xilian, Vice-rector for Academic Affairs, and Indonesian Director of Chinese Center.

Indonesian Director of the Chinese Center of Unhas, Prof. Dr. Burhanuddin Arafah, M.Hum explained that the Center has been initiated since February. This center will be focusing on workshops, research, and education which can optimize human resources.  

“There will be many things to do. Together we will optimally utilize what we can do. There is still a lot of homework regarding this idea. However, hopefully we will continue to strive and contribute in many things,” said prof Arafah.

On the same occasion, Vice-rector for Academic Affairs of Unhas, Prof. Dr. Ir. Muh. Restu, MP, explained the national and international achievements and cooperation of Unhas.

"One of the most productive collaborations with foreign partners is the cooperation between Unhas, Confucius Institute Headquarters, and Nanchang University of China. This collaboration has been carried out very well through activities at the Mandarin Language Center and Confucious Center of Unhas. These two institutions not only serve the Unhas academic community, but also the general public. Furthermore, as we all know, a Center for ASEAN-China Studies and Exchange will be formed, " said Prof. Restu.

“We hope that the initiative will bring a positive impact and great advantage for the academic community and public.  Thus, we expected that the planned activities will proceed with good support from all parties,” added Prof. Restu

H. E. Huang Xilian, the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to ASEAN expressed his gratitude for the warm welcoming ceremony from Unhas. He explained the reason for selecting Unhas as The center of ASEAN -China.

The ambassador added that various supports will be provided including: donating books, inviting lecturer, teacher, and students to do research or summer camp.

The event was attended approximately 100 attendance consisting of students and lecturers. (*)
