The International Office of Universitas Hasanuddin (KUI Unhas) accepts inbound international students from three countries, namely Malaysia, Timor Leste, and Kyrgyzstan. The presence of these inbound students is part of the World Class University’s program, and they will attend some learning processes at Unhas for two weeks starting from Monday (8/11) to Saturday (20/11).
Through an interview, the Head of KUI Unhas, Karmila Mokoginta, S.S., M.A., explained that the Inbound Students Exchange program is part of the additional funding program of World Class University (WCU). The Inbound Students Exchange collaborates with other 12 universities in Indonesia that have international students with similar programs.
“Unhas received funds from WCU twice, main and additional funds. Inbound Students Exchange program is conducted using the additional funds specially addressed to international students from various universities in Indonesia running the same WCU funding programs. We started the process by informing other universities that received WCU funds to send their international students to study at Unhas,” Karmila explained.
Many universities in Indonesia gave positive responses towards this program. However, they cannot send their international students because many international students are still in their respective countries due to the pandemic. Accordingly, only three universities were involved and dispatched one student. Universitas Sumatra Utara sent one international student from Malaysia; Institut Teknologi Sepuluh November dispatched one international student from Timor Leste; Universitas Pendidikan Indonesian delegated an international student from Kyrgyzstan.
Furthermore, Karmila said that it required a relatively long administrative process to directly bring international students from their countries to Indonesia due to the Covid-19 pandemic, one of which was the vaccination requirement. Hence, overcoming such a situation while still optimizing the internationalization process and partnerships broadly, it was then initiated to bring in the international students already studying at the universities in Indonesia.
“three international students have already been at Unhas attending learning processes carried out in accordance with the established policies in which some of the courses are conducted online, and some others, especially the courses of field practice, are held offline while still adhering to the Covid-19 protocol,” Karmila concluded.
