The decision to build collaboration with the ShOU is based on the needs to develop the potential of aquaculture and marine products. This idea will be realized by Unhas collectively, through scientific cooperation with the world-level university which has the scientific competencies related to the field.
The ShOU is a University that focuses on fisheries and marine scientific development in China. This University was established in 1912 and used to be a Fisheries School of Jiangsu Province. The school then became a fisheries institute, then turned into a fisheries university. In 2008, it was officially named Shanghai Ocean University. The ShOU campus is located in Shanghai City, on the banks of the Huangpu River. This university is well known for its expertise in agriculture, natural science, engineering, economics, arts, management, and Chinese language teaching for the foreigner. the ShOU accepted approximately 15.000 full-time students for various degrees every year.
The signing of Memorandum of Understanding between Unhas and ShOU took place at the Main Building of National Science and Technology Park, Main Campus of the ShOU. The event was started by giving a brief introduction to each university. Then, the Rector of Unhas, Prof. Dr. Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu, MA, and the President of the ShOU, Prof. Chen Yudong, officially signed the MoU.
On the same occasion, they discussed further the detailed planning of collaboration and ended with gift exchange and group photo session.
After the main event, they visited sevaral campus facilities, including a very modern science and technology park facility and became a reference for the development of marine and fisheries science.
Prof Dwia expressed her thankfulness for the opportunity given by the ShOU to collaborate with Unhas. This is a form of trust and opportunity that must be well managed for academics at Hasanuddin University, especially at the Faculty of Marine and Fisheries Sciences.
"We will develop collaboration related to education and academic activities. Specifically, joint research, joint publications, lecturer and student exchanges, and the development of fish nurseries for crab and shrimp and the process of downstream of marine and fishery product," said Prof. Dwia.
Responding to an agreement with Unhas, the ShoU warmly welcomed and optimistically believed that the collaboration will be a big success. In November, a representative of the ShOU visited Unhas. Therefore, the ShOU expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the hospitality of Unhas when welcoming the ShOU delegation to Unhas. (*)
