Universitas Hasanuddin Involves in ASEAN and European International Projects

Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas), one of 29 well-known universities in ASEAN and Europe, was involved in the CALOHEA project (Comparing Achievements of Learning Outcomes in Higher Education in ASEAN).

The CALOHEA project was established to encourage higher education in ASEAN and Europe, improve the educational system’s quality, and graduate to the international level, especially in Civil engineering, Medicine, and Teaching.

There are two study programs in Unhas involved, Medicine and Civil Engineering Study Program. Meanwhile, all funding comes from the European Commission.

Head of the Institute for Quality Assurance and Education Development (LPMPP), Dr. Ir. Prastawa Budi, M.Sc., explained that the involvement of Unhas in the CALOHEA Project was related to active participation in the ASEAN University Network (AUN). He conveyed the statement in an interview on Wednesday (10/03).

Unhas has 27 certified study programs that meet the AUN-QA criteria (ASEAN University Network for Quality Assurance). For such achievement, then AUN offered the CALOHEA Project to Unhas to apply for a Medicine and Civil Engineering Study Program to participate.

“Medicine and Civil Engineering Study Programs are the first two study programs certified by AUN-QA in 2016. Therefore, in terms of quality, the two study programs have met at least the ASEAN qualification framework according to the higher education competency standards in ASEAN countries,” explained Prastawa.

Furthermore, Prastawa added that the involvement of Unhas in the CALOHEA project would impact recognition by various universities involved in the project, especially in ASEAN and Europe.

Through this platform, the international reputation of Unhas will increase so that it is easier to establish collaboration, both in the field of education such as credit-earning, joint or double degree, and increasing the number of Unhas international students.

“A total of 29 well-known universities from 13 countries, 5 from Europe and 8 from ASEAN, were involved in this project. Later, Unhas’ experience in this project, mainly for the two study programs (Medicine and Civil Engineering), can be adopted by other study programs to improve quality and boost international reputation,” added Prastawa.

In the CALOHEA project, Unhas, together with universities in the ASEAN and European regions, are the main actors in building a model for measuring the learning outcomes of graduates that are compatible at the international level. The results of this CPL measurement model will then be used as a reference for study programs for curriculum development, courses and learning strategies.

During the pandemic, All parties will discuss this project in more depth via video conference. The universities involved in this project had an initial meeting on Tuesday (09/03) with an agenda for further discussion about CALOHEA and what tasks needed to be carried out by the universities involved.
