Indonesian Diaspora Webinar by Faculty of Economics and Business on “Current Issues in Corporate Governance”

The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas) held a Diaspora Webinar themed “Current Issues in Corporate Governance”. Frendy, Ph.D., CPA (US-IL) from Nagoya University of Commerce and Business, Japan, was presented as the keynote speaker of this webinar.

Frendy, Ph.D., CPA, through this occasion, presented material related to “Current Issues in Corporate Governance: Case of Indonesia and Japan”. The material generally explains that the Implementation of Corporate Governance is required as a motivation for company performance.

The governance, as mentioned above, involves a series of relationships between company management, the board of shareholders, and other stakeholders. Besides, it provides a structure that defines the goals of the company and ways to achieve these goals and determines the company’s performance monitoring.

In the implementation, the governance applies a value system used as a benchmark for a company’s ability to carry out operational activities rigorously and business processes.

“To anticipate the emergence of misinformation and monitoring, companies must implement Corporate Governance practices to deal with these weaknesses. It is hoped that the implementation of such governance can create added value for all interested parties or stakeholders,” explained Frendy.

Furthermore, Frendy explained in his presentation that the regulator or the government had suggested all companies in Indonesia following the implementation of the Corporate Governance code so that companies can increase shareholder guarantees. Meanwhile, the corporation separates the roles of ownership from outside parties and controlling parties.

After the presentation, it was proceeded by a discussion session from the participants involved. The activity moderated by Daniella C. Sampepajung, SE, M.Sc., (Lecturer of FEB Unhas) was conducted virtually through the Zoom Meeting application and attended by approximately 150 participants on Saturday (18/09).
