About the Program

The Bachelor Program of Physics (PSSF) is one of the study programs managed by Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Unhas and together with the Masters and Doctoral Study Program of Physics under the Department of Physics. As a core science, Physics does not only focus on theory but has provided also application-based learning for technology and the discovery of new materials for industry, pure research and health.

Strengths

PSSF FMIPA Unhas, has currently obtained Excellent accreditation from LAMSAMA No.
074/SK/LAMSAMA/Akred/S/VII/2023 which is valid until 20 July 2028

Areas of Specialization

PSSF has 4 specialization groups:

  • Theoretical & Computational Physics: Strengthened competencies are simulation and computation.
  • Material & Energy Physics: Strengthened competencies are the discovery of new materials for applications in the health sector (bone/dental implants, wound dressings, phantoms, shielding), and in the environmental sector (catalyst materials for heavy metal detection, textile dyes, pharmaceutical and pesticide waste, bioplastics environmentally friendly).
  • Instrumental Physics & Electronics: Strengthened competencies are sensor instrumentation for IoT-based industrial, environmental, civil structure, medical, agricultural applications, supercapacitor materials, design for fiber optic sensors and antenna manufacture.
  • Optical, Spectroscopy & Medical Physics: Strengthened competencies are photonic technology for therapy (Photodynamic Therapy), expertise as a Medical Physicist for radiology equipment according to Quality Assurance and Quality Control standards.

Learning Process

  • The PSSF learning process focuses on contextual and conceptual collaboration with a variety of learning methods: Case Based Learning (CBL), Project based Learning (PjBL) through practicum and Focus Group Discussion (FGD).
  • Independent Campus Learning Activities (MBKM) in semesters 5 and 6 adapt the curriculum to be carried out in the form of PMM or internships at companies.
  • Final project research is carried out at BRIN according to laboratory specialization
  • Theory and computing specialties have officially licensed software (Mapple).
  • Especially for the Medical Physics specialization, PSSF has several radiation and phantom type measuring instruments and has collaborated with many hospitals to conduct research easier.

Career Prospects

Profiles of PSSF graduates include academics, young researchers, entrepreneurs and quality control personnel. Most graduates work as physics lecturers and teachers, and continue their education at domestic and foreign universities. Several graduates have joined as research staff in institutions or agencies that provide testing services in laboratories. PSSF graduates also work in banks and private companies, especially in the IT department. One of the specializations at PSSF is Medical Physics. This specialization has produced graduates who work as quality control personnel in hospitals/clinics, medical equipment industry companies, for example BPFK. There are also graduates who are entrepreneurs as service or product providers, website development, sensor manufacturing.
