MAKASSAR — A total of 185 administrative staff members took part in the Basic Training for Prospective Permanent Non-Civil-Servant Employees, Cohort VIII, Hasanuddin University 2026, Wave II. The program is part of the orientation for prospective employees to understand their roles, duties, and responsibilities while building professionalism in carrying out their work at Unhas.
Vice Rector for Human Resources, Talent Development, and Welfare at Unhas, Prof. Dr. Farida Patittingi, S.H., M.Hum., stressed that being an employee should not be understood merely as meeting attendance obligations. Understanding one’s duties and responsibilities needs to grow alongside discipline and quality of work.
“We want to expand. It is not enough to just show up, come in, and sign the attendance sheet without understanding your duties and responsibilities as an employee. This must be instilled in ourselves,” said Prof. Farida.
Every employee is expected to be committed to professionalism and able to give their best performance in the duties they carry out. This is important for building a productive work environment while supporting the institution’s achievement of its targets.
Meanwhile, Unhas Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc., reminded the participants of the importance of empathy in carrying out their duties as part of the Unhas academic community. Employees need to be sensitive to the conditions and needs of the institution, including understanding the various agendas and needs of the leadership in carrying out their duties.
“Think of us as troops on the battlefield. In working and preparing anything, we must have empathy,” said Prof. JJ.
Prof. JJ also urged the prospective employees to build a sense of belonging to Unhas. In the Rector’s view, every individual has a role in caring for and developing the institution as a shared home.
“Be the kind of Unhas academic community member who is missed. When you are not there, we feel the loss,” said Prof. JJ.
In carrying out that role, Prof. JJ encouraged employees to be agile and adaptable. The ability to adjust to change, along with the willingness to keep learning and growing, is considered important so that employees can make an ever-better contribution to the institution.
Such an attitude is also expected to support the development of employees’ capacity and careers in the future. By continuing to improve their competence and the quality of their performance, employees have room to grow in line with their potential and Unhas’s needs.
The training was held from Tuesday to Thursday, 15–17 September 2026, starting at 07:30 WITA (Central Indonesia Time) until finished, at the Prof. Dr. Baharuddin Lopa, S.H. Baruga, Faculty of Law, Hasanuddin University. The program continued on Saturday, 19 September 2026, starting at 06:30 WITA until finished at the Hasanuddin University Archery Field.(*/dhs)
