Hasanuddin University recorded another academic milestone through a graduation ceremony attended by 981 graduates from various levels of education. The total consists of 328 men (33.44%) and 653 women (66.56%). The graduation ceremony took place at Baruga A.P. Pettarani, Unhas Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar, on Thursday (7 May), as part of Unhas’s ongoing commitment to maintaining graduate productivity and the quality of higher education.

The graduation is not only a marker of individual graduates’ success but also reflects the institution’s consistency in strengthening academic governance that is adaptive to the challenges of higher education. Amid demands to improve quality and graduate competitiveness, Unhas continues to take various strategic steps to ensure that the education process becomes more effective, measurable, and impactful.

Unhas Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. drg. Muhammad Ruslin, M.Kes., Ph.D., Sp.BM(K), explained in the academic report that graduation is an important part of the cycle of strengthening the quality of higher education. According to Prof. Ruslin, students’ success in completing their studies on time is one of the main indicators of how effectively a university delivers education.

“Graduation is not just an academic ceremony, but also a reflection of the university’s commitment to improving the quality of education, strengthening graduate competitiveness, and making a real contribution to national development,” Prof. Ruslin explained.

Entering the 2026/2027 Academic Year, Unhas is intensifying its monitoring of students’ study completion through various systematic approaches. These steps are aimed at increasing the number of students who graduate on time while reducing the proportion of students who exceed the minimum standard study period.

Prof. Ruslin explained that these efforts are closely tied to the Educational Efficiency Rate (AEE), one of the key performance indicators under the Impactful Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Diktisaintek Berdampak) scheme. The indicator assesses how effectively education is delivered by looking at students’ success in completing their studies within the ideal time frame.

“To improve our AEE achievement, we continue to strengthen academic governance through various strategic and measurable steps. Efforts to accelerate study completion include strengthening the monitoring of academic progress, setting clear study milestones, and optimizing the role of academic supervisors,” Prof. Ruslin added.

As part of strengthening the academic system, Prof. Ruslin said, Unhas also applies an early warning system for students at risk of study delays. The system enables early identification of the academic obstacles students face so that more intensive support can be provided promptly.

At the faculty and study program level, routine monitoring is focused mainly on students in critical semesters approaching the normal study period limit. Various forms of intervention, whether academic, administrative, or psychosocial, are provided in an integrated manner to help students overcome the obstacles they face during their education.

According to Prof. Ruslin, AEE achievement is strongly influenced by the proportion of students who do not complete their studies on time. The greater the number of students who exceed the standard study period, the lower the efficiency of education delivery that a university achieves.

Through these strategies, Unhas reaffirmed its commitment to continue delivering a higher education system that is more responsive, efficient, and oriented toward student success.

The graduation of these 981 graduates is part of the university’s ongoing efforts to produce outstanding human resources who can contribute to society, the nation, and the advancement of science.
