Malaysian Experts Discuss Children’s Dental Health at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Hasanuddin

Universitas Hasanuddin, through the Faculty of Dentistry, held a Guest Lecture which invited a speaker from Malaysia, Prof. Dr. Sabri Musa. This speaker is the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The guest lecture took place in the Molar Room, FKG Unhas, Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar, on Wednesday (19/02).

Prof. Sabri presented a topic entitled “An Update on Restorative Materials in Pediatric Dentistry, ” which discussed a pediatric dentist’s profession. Human teeth experienced major changes from infancy to adolescence. During this period, teeth were susceptible to various problems such as tooth decay, placement of the wrong teeth, or teeth that grow at an abnormal angle.

Therefore, it is crucial to examine children’s teeth early to maintain oral health, modify deviant habits, and treat children’s teeth properly.

“To deal with children’s dental problems, such as caries risk, we use a restoration material that is by the condition of the child concerned. Usually, as a material consideration in choosing a restoration material is to look at the child’s age, caries risk, tooth type, and then we choose the appropriate restorative material,” explained Prof. Sabri.

Aside from explaining Pediatric Dentistry, Prof. Sabri also gave some restoration materials that are currently widely used in pediatric dentistry.

The activity, which presented approximately 100 participants from academics such as lecturers and students of faculty of dentistry, continued until 12.00 West Indonesian Time.
