Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) and Kanazawa University, Japan, are strengthening their long-standing academic partnership through the UNHAS–KU Summer Program 2026, bringing students from both institutions together for academic engagement, cultural exchange, and international networking. Organized by the Directorate of Internationalization at UNHAS, the program brings together 20 students from Kanazawa University and UNHAS. The participants represent diverse academic and cultural backgrounds, including international UNHAS students from Somalia, Iraq, Pakistan, Nigeria, and Bangladesh.
Through the program, students take part in a combination of academic activities and cultural experiences designed to broaden their perspectives on Indonesia while strengthening interaction between the two university communities. The summer program also provides a platform for students to build academic and personal connections across national and cultural boundaries, supporting wider student mobility and international engagement between UNHAS and Kanazawa University.
UNHAS Vice Rector for Partnership, Internationalization, and Alumni Affairs, Prof. Ir. Suharman Hamzah, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., Eng., HSE Cert., said the relationship between the two universities has continued to develop through a range of international programs. “The collaboration between Hasanuddin University and Kanazawa University has been established for quite some time. The program reflects the universities’ continuing efforts to move beyond formal institutional cooperation by creating direct opportunities for students to study, interact, and learn together. Student mobility remains one of the central pillars of the partnership, while both institutions continue to explore broader academic collaboration and new opportunities for international engagement. Expanding Access to Opportunities in Japan. As part of its efforts to deepen engagement with Japanese partners, UNHAS is also developing a hub or information center on campus that will provide students and academics with information on educational opportunities in Japan.
The center is expected to serve as a gateway to opportunities including short courses, summer programs, student exchanges, and further study, making information on academic pathways in Japan more accessible to the UNHAS community. The initiative complements the UNHAS–KU Summer Program by creating a more permanent platform for students who are interested in future academic experiences with Japanese institutions.
Through the UNHAS–KU Summer Program 2026, UNHAS and Kanazawa University continue to expand a partnership centered on student mobility, cross-cultural learning, and academic exchange. The program also provides a foundation for broader collaboration in research, education, and other joint initiatives between Indonesia and Japan.
