As a form of concern over the Covid-19 global pandemic outbreak, the Forestry Faculty of Universitas Hasanuddin provided food packages to a number of students from out of Makassar who choose to stay around the Unhas campus.
Through an interview on Friday (10/04), Vice-Dean for Student Affairs and Alumni of the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University, Dr. Astuti Arif, S.Hut., M.Sc., explained that this donation is a form of social awareness of the Faculty of Forestry Unhas to help students who decided to stay in dormitories around the campus.
“Our concern for the extension of the study from home policy due to the increase of Covid-19 positive cases. This situation has an impact on students on accessing basic needs. They are expected to stay at home, especially for students who are staying in dormitories around campus,” explained Astuti.
The packages came from donations from various sources including academic communities of the Faculty of Forestry of Universitas Hasanuddin.
“We prepared around 70 packages of basic food, which we distributed based on the collected data of our students who are still around the campus. In each package, we also provide masks to minimize transmission,” added Astuti.
Before the activity, the Faculty of Forestry sprayed disinfectants in the homes of lecturers and staff. This activity is to overcome the Covid-19 transmission and is expected to continue throughout the pandemic. They hope that the outbreak can end as soon as possible.
“We will continue to raise funds, both from the academic community and other sources. Thus, during this pandemic, we can continue to provide assistance to those in need. In addition to this assistance, we disseminate information through online communication,” said Astuti.
Dr. Astuti Arif hopes that this aid can be well managed by students and it is expected to help students in the current situation.
The distribution of the food packages was supervised by the dean of the Faculty of Forestry who was also the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of Universitas Hasanuddin, Prof. Dr. Ir. Muh Restu, MP. (* / Mir)
