MAKASSAR — Hasanuddin University is strengthening support for the international mobility of its academic community through the launch of the Campus Immigration Point (CIP). The service brings immigration services closer to students, lecturers, administrative and support staff, and Unhas’s international partners.

CIP Unhas was inaugurated in person by Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc. Also present were the Vice Rector for Partnerships, Internationalization and Alumni Affairs (Prof. Ir. Suharman Hamzah, ST, MEng, Ph.D.), the Head of the South Sulawesi Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration (Friece Sumolang, S.H., M.H.), the Consul General of Australia in Makassar (Sarah Storey), and the Head of the Makassar Class I Special Immigration Office TPI (Abdi Widodo Subagio, S.Si.).

The launch of CIP Unhas is a strategic step in strengthening immigration services within a university setting, particularly to support the international mobility needs of the academic community. The service is expected to provide convenience, effectiveness, and closer access for the campus community in obtaining immigration services.

Friece Sumolang, Head of the South Sulawesi Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, said the Campus Immigration Point is designed to benefit as many people as possible, both the Unhas academic community and the general public.

“For now it is still in a trial phase. But going forward, of course, we will not stop here. We will keep expanding the service until it can be accessed by all members of the public without exception,” said Friece.

The presence of immigration services on campus also shows that universities can take on a bigger role in providing direct benefits to the public, especially in supporting mobility needs. People who need passport services no longer have to go to the immigration office in person from the initial stage. Registration can be done through the M-Paspor application.

For now, CIP Unhas is open every Tuesday and Thursday, with a quota of 25 per day for passport services. Services for foreign nationals are not limited. Going forward, the service is targeted to expand so that it can be accessed every day.

Unhas Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa welcomed the presence of CIP Unhas as part of strengthening Unhas’s position as a World Class University and as a university that provides wider benefits to society. The service is a symbol of the government’s trust in Unhas as a strategic partner in supporting international mobility.

“We hope this role can become an example, especially for universities in eastern Indonesia. For Unhas itself, the facility is very important, given the increasing mobility of the academic community to various countries,” said Prof. JJ.

Every year, hundreds of Unhas students and lecturers carry out activities abroad. Likewise, hundreds of foreign lecturers, researchers, and students come and become part of Unhas. The presence of CIP Unhas will make immigration services easier and strengthen the university’s internationalization ecosystem.(*/ams)
