The International Office (IO) of Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) successfully conducted a comprehensive two-day workshop on Photography and Videography for Global News. This event was conducted from Monday to Tuesday, 4-5 May 2026 at the Institute for Quality Assurance and Educational Development (LPMPP) Ballroom and Meeting Room A, the 4th floor of the Rectorate Building. The event was officially opened by the Head of the International Office, Andi Masyitha Irwan, Ph.D. (popularly known as Ms. Citha), representing the UNHAS Secretary. In her welcoming remarks, Ms. Citha emphasized the strategic importance of the workshop for the participants, who primarily consisted of UNHAS Public Relations staff and International Task Force members from all faculties.

The primary motivation for the workshop is the IO’s commitment to their weekly news publication, serves as a platform for faculties to showcase internationalization efforts such as guest lectures, research collaborations, and inbound or outbound programs. Ms. Citha noted that images currently submitted by various faculties often fall short of professional journalistic standards. By gathering staff for this intensive training, the IO aims to standardize the quality of visual content, ensuring that the news originating from each faculty is polished and ready for global consumption.

The curriculum was meticulously split over two days to cover both theoretical and practical aspects of visual storytelling. Day 1 focused on the foundational elements of photography, including sessions on “Understanding the Meaning Behind Photos,” an introduction to camera operations, and a deep dive into the “Exposure Triangle.” Participants also studied essential concepts such as composition, shot types, angles, and various genres of photography. The first day concluded with a comprehensive overview and hands-on practice sessions to reinforce the technical lessons learned.

Day 2 shifted the focus toward technical mastery and modern content creation, beginning with advanced camera settings and shooting techniques. Participants were introduced to the fundamentals of camera support tools and received practical training in basic editing specifically tailored for social media content. Led by Erizal Zhafran Muyazzar Edison, S.I.Kom, and a team of young communication practitioners from the IO Media Coverage unit, the workshop concluded with a final round of practice. The event ended with high expectations from both the organizers and participants, who look forward to presenting significantly improved visual narratives in future UNHAS international news updates.
