Faculty Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA) of Universitas Hasanuddin conducted an international conference entitled “The 5th International Conference on Science (ICOS) 2022”. The event emerges a topic on “Development in Sciences Towards Better Quality of Life”.
The opening ceremony took place at Hotel MaxOne under the implementation of the health protocol of Covid-19 in Makassar and was broadcasted through Zoom Meeting Application, on Friday (27/05).
Speakers in attendance are:
- Prof. Magda Titirici, Ph.D (Imperial College London, Inggris),
- Prof. Ian Young, Ph.D (University of Melbourne, Australia),
- Prof. Dahlang Tahir, Ph.D (Universitas Hasanuddin, Indonesia),
- Prof. Erin P. Riley, Ph.D (San Diego State University, Amerika Serikat)
- Assoc. Prof. Satoshi Okano, Ph.D (Ehime University, Jepang).
To begin with, Dean of FMIPA Unhas, Dr. eng. Amiruddin, M.Sc., in his speech explained that the 5th ICOS presented resource persons with international reputations with an impressive number of citations. The number of participants in the ICOS series has increased every year, as have the research papers collected.
Furthermore, Dr. Amiruddin added that this conference aims to bring together researchers and experts from various backgrounds and application fields to share with each other. This is expected to have an impact on the development of science in the fields of physics, biosciences, computational science, and mathematics in science and technology.
The activity was officially opened by the Chancellor of Unhas, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc. In his speech, Prof. JJ expressed his appreciation for the implementation of ICOS which is one of Unhas’ commitments in developing academic activities, especially to increase the output of publications in reputable publications. Through activities like this, it will be a means of establishing partnerships with various parties in increasing the tri dharma.
“I believe this activity will generate many ideas and ideas that can produce publications to improve the quality of research by academics and participating institutions. The speakers also have high qualifications and are experts in their respective fields. Hopefully, ICOS will run smoothly and provide widespread benefits,” explained Prof. JJ
After the official opening, the activity was continued by listening to the presentation of material from the speakers. The initial material was explained by Prof. Erin, who generally describes the field research collaborations carried out with Unhas. Besides Prof. Erin, other materials were also delivered by Prof. Satoshi Okano on useful biomaterials for medical purposes.
ICOS 2022 FMIPA Unhas will last until Saturday (28/5). On the first day, the activity ends at 16.00 WITA.
