The Faculty of Dentistry (FKG), Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), through their International Affairs Office, successfully organized an International Class Guest Lecture for the Minor Oral Surgery Course on 8 June 2026. The online academic session brought together students and faculty members to gain insights from an international expert in the field of oral and maxillofacial care. The guest lecture featured Prof. Dr. Puneet Batra from Manav Rachna Dental College (MRDC), India, as the invited speaker. During the session, Prof. Batra delivered a comprehensive lecture entitled “Multidisciplinary Treatment of Cleft Lip and Palate Children.”
In his presentation, Prof. Batra highlighted the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in the management of cleft lip and palate patients, emphasizing the need for collaboration among oral and maxillofacial surgeons, orthodontists, pediatric dentists, speech therapists, otolaryngologists, and other healthcare professionals. Such an integrated approach is essential to ensure optimal functional, aesthetic, and psychosocial outcomes for affected children.
The lecture also discussed contemporary treatment protocols, the timing of surgical and orthodontic interventions, and the long-term rehabilitation process required to support patients from infancy through adulthood. Participants gained valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities associated with comprehensive cleft care, as well as recent advances in clinical practice.
