MAKASSAR – Four student organizations at Hasanuddin University (Unhas) have secured funding under the 2026 Student Organization Capacity Strengthening Program (PPK Ormawa). The Unhas student organizations are tackling strategic community issues, from landslide disaster mitigation and food security to stunting prevention using a One Health approach.
The achievement was announced at the PPK Ormawa 2026 Kick Off held at the Arsjad Rasjid Lecture Theater, Tamalanrea Campus, on Monday (1 June). The event marks the starting point of the community empowerment programs that students will carry out in partner villages.
This year, Unhas got four teams through to funding under PPK Ormawa, organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendikti Saintek). The achievement is one worth recognizing, given that each university can receive funding for a maximum of seven of the teams it proposes.
The four successful teams show a diversity of approaches to solving community problems using science and technology, namely:
- The SPACE Team, Faculty of Engineering, Unhas, developed the program “LONTARA: Disaster Management Based on Community Engagement, Technology, and Environmental Conservation in Landslide Disaster Mitigation to Realize a Disaster-Resilient Lonjoboko Village.”
- The Executive Board of the Agricultural Technology Student Family (BEM KM-TEKPER) is carrying the program “CARA’DE: Implementation of Smart Hydro-Feed Farming as a Model for Integrating Sustainable Fisheries and Agriculture to Strengthen Community Food Self-Reliance in Tinggimae Village.”
- The Scientific Studies and Reasoning Student Activity Unit (UKM KPI) is developing the program “MANNENNUNGENG: Smart Hydro Loop as a Strategy to Increase Farmer Self-Reliance in Kajaolaliddong Village in Achieving Sustainable Food Self-Sufficiency.”
- The Veterinary Medicine Student Association (HIMAKAHA) is presenting the program “OCEANS: One Health Coastal Environment and Nutrition Sustainability as a Healthy Village Strategy in Controlling Stunting Risk Factors in Popo Village.”
This year’s achievement also marks a new chapter in Unhas history. For the first time, a Student Executive Board (BEM) has won PPK Ormawa funding, through the BEM KM Agricultural Technology. The success shows the growing involvement of student organizations in producing science-based solutions to community needs.
Unhas Director of Student Affairs Abdullah Sanusi, Ph.D., said that PPK Ormawa is a learning space that brings academic knowledge together with the real needs of communities.
“This program is not just a competition. It is a space for students to be present among the community and contribute through activities with real impact. This is the essence of service that we want to keep encouraging,” Abdullah said.
Getting four teams through shows that students are increasingly able to translate the knowledge they gain on campus into practical programs relevant to development challenges at the village level.
This year, Unhas proposed five teams to compete in PPK Ormawa. For the five teams that did not secure national funding, Unhas is committed to providing support through an internal funding scheme, similar to the Bina Desa Program.
“Unhas will facilitate the implementation of the programs the students have designed so that they can still benefit the community,” Abdullah explained.
With this support, nine student organization programs will be carried out this year. These programs are expected not only to create social impact for the target communities, but also to serve as a learning platform for students to apply their knowledge directly in the field.
Closing the remarks, Abdullah expressed hope that all the programs will run well and achieve competitive results at Abdidaya Ormawa 2026.
“We hope all activities run smoothly and reach their planned targets. To the four teams that secured funding, we hope you carry out your programs optimally, advance to Abdidaya Ormawa 2026, and bring home an award that makes Hasanuddin University proud,” Abdullah said.
Abdidaya Ormawa is an awards event and the culminating stage of PPK Ormawa, organized by the Directorate General of Learning and Student Affairs of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. In 2026, it will be held at Universitas Muslim Indonesia (UMI), Makassar. (*/kmhs/fjr)
