Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) explored opportunities for research and innovation collaboration with Sea6 Energy, India, during a meeting facilitated by the Directorate of Innovation and Intellectual Property on August 18, 2026.
Held in Meeting Room A on the seventh floor of the UNHAS Rectorate Building, the discussion brought together UNHAS seaweed researchers and representatives of Sea6 Energy to identify potential areas for future cooperation.
The meeting focused on opportunities to advance seaweed research and utilization through closer collaboration between academia and industry. Connecting university researchers with an international company operating in the seaweed sector could provide pathways for translating scientific findings into technologies, products, and applications with greater economic and environmental value.
Potential areas of cooperation include joint research, scientific and technical knowledge exchange, technology development, and approaches to the sustainable use of marine biological resources.
For Indonesia, where seaweed already supports significant coastal economic activity, stronger links between research and industry could help improve how scientific knowledge is translated into practical applications. Future cooperation with Sea6 Energy could therefore provide a platform for technological development while encouraging approaches that create value from marine resources without losing sight of ecological sustainability and the needs of coastal communities.
