Makassar, 10 October 2026 – Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) has opened registration for its “UNHAS Free from Dental and Oral Diseases” program, an initiative aimed at improving access to dental and oral healthcare services while raising awareness of the importance of oral health among the university community. Through this program, UNHAS students, lecturers, and staff have the opportunity to receive free dental and oral health services as part of the university’s efforts to promote a healthier and more supportive campus environment.

The initiative highlights UNHAS’s commitment to encouraging preventive healthcare practices and improving health awareness across its academic community. Dental and oral health is an essential component of overall well-being, directly influencing quality of life, personal comfort, and daily productivity. Common oral health problems, including tooth decay, gum disease, and oral infections, can interfere with academic and professional activities if left untreated. By promoting access to dental healthcare services, the program seeks to encourage early detection, preventive measures, and healthier oral hygiene practices.

Through the UNHAS Free from Dental and Oral Diseases program, the university encourages its academic community to take a more proactive approach to maintaining dental and oral health. The initiative also aims to strengthen awareness of the importance of regular dental checkups, proper oral hygiene, and early recognition of potential health problems. These efforts are expected to help participants develop healthier habits and recognize the importance of preventive healthcare in their daily lives.

Beyond its immediate health benefits, the program contributes to building a campus culture that prioritizes health, well-being, and inclusivity. Providing free dental and oral healthcare services helps reduce financial barriers that may prevent individuals from seeking appropriate care. By creating opportunities for members of the university community to access healthcare services regardless of their financial circumstances, UNHAS seeks to support a more inclusive and health-conscious academic environment.

Registration is open from 13 to 23 October 2026 for members of the Hasanuddin University community. Interested participants can register online through https://bit.ly/PendafataranUNHASBebasPenyakitMulut. Under the slogan “Healthy Smiles, Healthy Campus,” UNHAS invites its entire academic community to take advantage of this opportunity and actively participate in improving dental and oral health. Through this initiative, the university continues to promote a healthier, more inclusive, and productive campus environment while encouraging greater awareness of the importance of preventive healthcare and collective well-being.

The initiative primarily supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-Being, particularly Target 3.8, which promotes access to quality essential healthcare services. By offering free dental and oral healthcare services, UNHAS contributes to efforts to improve access to preventive healthcare and encourage healthier lifestyles within the university community.

The program also contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education by promoting health awareness and encouraging continuous learning about personal hygiene and preventive healthcare. Improving health literacy enables individuals to make more informed decisions about their well-being and reinforces the role of universities in promoting knowledge beyond traditional academic settings.

Furthermore, the initiative aligns with SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities by helping minimize financial barriers to healthcare access. Through the provision of free services, the program creates opportunities for students, lecturers, and staff from different socioeconomic backgrounds to prioritize their dental and oral health without the immediate burden of healthcare expenses.
