MAKASSAR – Amid increasingly competitive demands on higher education, universities are expected to have governance that adapts to change. In that spirit, Hasanuddin University (Unhas) is strengthening its leadership consolidation through the inauguration of new officials, a strategic step to accelerate the institution’s transformation into a world-class university.
Unhas Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc., stressed that the inauguration of officials is a moment to bring fresh energy into the organization so that it can meet ever-evolving challenges. The arrival of new officials opens room to adapt to the demands and developments of the environment, both national and international.
“The positions that have just been placed on your shoulders are not a burden, but a responsibility that must be carried out earnestly and with integrity. Those of you inaugurated today are the main engine of the university,” Prof. JJ said.
According to Prof. JJ, the challenges facing Unhas ahead are becoming more complex. There are various strategic targets to be achieved. This situation demands governance that is increasingly strong, effective, agile, and able to adapt to change. Unhas has strong assets to realize these aspirations.
The various achievements made in recent years show that Unhas is capable of making significant leaps in many aspects. To that end, Prof. JJ urged all officials to build closer collaboration across faculties, directorates, and work units so that every potential can move in the same direction.
Prof. JJ also warned that accelerating transformation cannot be achieved if all elements of the university still work in a business-as-usual pattern. Unhas must dare to change its standard of success by using the best universities, both nationally and internationally, as benchmarks.
“From today we must dare to set high work standards. Dreams are free, but they demand a steep price in the form of a strong work ethic, tireless innovation, and the courage to leave our comfort zones,” said Prof. JJ.
On this occasion, Prof. JJ called on all the newly inaugurated officials to prove themselves as the best talents, able to lead change and face challenges with courage. Prof. JJ hopes that the spirit of courage, integrity, and collaboration will equip all officials to lead Unhas toward becoming an increasingly excellent, impactful, and globally competitive institution.
Prof. JJ did not forget to express appreciation to the officials who have completed their four years of service. Prof. JJ hopes the outgoing officials will not leave Unhas. An organization, Prof. JJ said, is like a football team. Changing players is normal to maintain rhythm and strengthen the team’s performance. Even as roles change, the entire academic community remains united in one great goal: helping Unhas continue to grow and make its best contribution to society.
The inauguration took place at the Baruga A.P. Pettarani Building at Unhas on Monday (20 July). On that occasion, Unhas inaugurated 122 new officials who will hold various strategic positions within the university as part of strengthening organizational governance. (*/mir)
