The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Center of Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas) conducted an International Seminar on “The Role of Technology in a Sustainable Future”. The event was established at the Prof. dr. Hardjoeno Hall Building on Thursday (9/6).
Two speakers were invited to this seminar, namely: Professor Pat Wheeler (Head of Power Electronics Machines and Control Research Group, Faculty of Engineering), and Dr. Bagus Muljadi, Assistant Professor of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering UK, Indonesia Consortium for Interdisciplinary Sciences (UKICIS) Coordinator).
The event began with a remark by the Head of SDGs Center Unhas, Dr. Muhammad Yusri Zamhuri. He said that this seminar aimed to provide a profound understanding of air pollution and the effects due to vehicle activities that have affected climate change.
“The speakers invited are experts in their respective fields related to our topic today and they will provide an overview and understanding regarding the discussion topics. We do hope through this activity we can be together part of this in overcoming challenges of the climate change” Dr. Yusri explained.
In his presentation, Professor Pat Wheeler explained the role of new and renewable energy in responding to the challenges of controlling climate change. The energy transition of the transportation sector is important in increasing the efficiency of reducing carbon emissions.
Furthermore, Professor Pat Wheeler explained the realization of renewable technology investments for future use by developing an ecosystem utilizing electrified vehicles as an energy efficiency measure.
After the presentation of the first speaker, Dr. Bagus Muljadi as the second presenter took the second turn which was then proceeded with a discussion and Q&A session attended by roughly 100 participants.
