SDGs Center of Universitas Hasanuddin Discussed the Role of Students in Optimizing Sustainable Development.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Center of Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas) conducted a discussion on students’ role to strengthen the goal of sustainable development. This is part of Unhas commitment to maintaining the SGDs implementation in Indonesia. The activity was carried out online in Zoom Application on Friday (12/03).

Muhammad Ulil Ahsan, a secretariat staff of SDGs Center, conveyed that the activity invited representatives of the Student organization, such as the Students Council, Student Asociation, and Student Activity Units. Students are expected to understand and are motivated to be involved in achieving the SDGs’ target by 2030.

The Head of SDGs Center Unhas, Dr. Muhammad Yusri Zamhuri started the event with a speech. He explained the history, principles, role, and implementation of the SDGs, especially in Eastern Indonesia.

Dr. Yusri presented an example of the SDGs Centre’s role in assisting the preparation of the SDGs Regional Action Plan (RAD) in several provinces in Eastern Indonesia. He encouraged students to be part of the action. Students can learn, discuss, and develop knowledge with a team of experts and administrators involved in the SDGs Center of Unhas.

The committee also presented Efendi Darming (The Main Outstanding Student of Unhas 2020, an alumnus of the Faculty of Law) and Samintang (the SDGs Ambassador of Unhas, Student of the Faculty of Economics and Business) to share their knowledge and experience related to the SDGs. The Students also provided some advice and inputs, especially regarding the implementation of SDGs at Unhas, for example, the SDGs Centre’s role for socio-economically affected people by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The discussion of SDGs was closed with a speech from the Dean of the Postgraduate School, Prof. Jamaluddin Jompa, Ph.D., who is also the supervisor of the SDGs Center of Unhas. He emphasized that the SDGs are a global responsibility to solve various problems today. Therefore, students are expected to be involved and contribute according to their respective capacities.

The SDGs Center of Unhas strives to develop activities and programs by involving various parties and is committed to implementing the principle of ‘no one left behind and becoming a centre that can accelerate SDGs’ achievement in Eastern Indonesia.
