The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Hasanuddin University (FISIP Unhas) has achieved an international milestone by entering the global QS World University Rankings through the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 scheme.
In the latest rankings, the field of Politics was placed 301–400 in the world, marking international recognition of the quality of education and research at FISIP Unhas.
This achievement is part of the faculty’s contribution to strengthening Unhas’s position as a world-class university. The global recognition shows that the development of the social and political sciences at Unhas continues to move toward international academic standards.
In an interview on Tuesday (10 March), FISIP Dean Prof. Dr. Phil. Sukri, M.Si., expressed gratitude for the achievement. According to Prof. Sukri, FISIP Unhas’s entry into the QS by Subject rankings is the result of the collective work of all elements of the faculty.
“This is a success for the political science cluster as a whole, involving collaboration among all departments at FISIP,” explained Prof. Sukri.
The achievement is the result of synergy among various academic programs that continue to be developed at the faculty level. Collaboration among departments, students, and lecturers, along with the support of faculty management, has been an important factor in improving the quality of the Tridharma of Higher Education (teaching, research, and community service).
These quality improvement efforts are also in line with the Unhas Rector’s direction urging all faculties to maximize the various international ranking indicators.
“These rankings are not merely about ranking positions, but rather about recognition of the many efforts made by the academic community in developing education, research, and community service,” added Prof. Sukri.
Prof. Sukri noted that FISIP Unhas’s inclusion in the QS by Subject rankings also has a strategic impact on the internationalization of the campus. One of the most tangible impacts is increased opportunities to attract international students to pursue their studies at FISIP Unhas.
“Many foreign students use the QS rankings as their main reference in choosing a university to study at. FISIP Unhas’s inclusion on the list has the potential to increase international students’ interest,” added Prof. Sukri.
In addition, global recognition through the QS Rankings also has the potential to expand opportunities for international research collaboration. Researchers from various countries generally consider an institution’s reputation and global ranking position when forming research partnerships.
As a strategic step going forward, FISIP Unhas will continue to strengthen various QS assessment indicators, particularly scientific publications, academic reputation, and graduate reputation in the workforce. These efforts are carried out by increasing research collaboration, strengthening graduate programs, and providing faculty funding support for various key performance indicators (IKU).
FISIP Unhas also encourages students, especially at the master’s and doctoral levels, to be more active in publishing their research in internationally reputable journals. In addition, research strengthening through Thematic Research Groups (TRG) continues to be developed to improve the quality and impact of research.
“We are also working to expand research and publication collaboration with various international partners. Undergraduate students are also encouraged to take part in joint research activities with overseas partners so that the research results are not just stored as academic reports but can be published widely,” said Prof. Sukri.
Through these various strategic steps, the faculty hopes not only to maintain its achievement in the global rankings but also to improve its position in the future. (*/mir)
