The Faculty of Dentistry (FKG), Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), in collaboration with Niigata University, Japan, successfully organized the 3rd International Joint Conference on 5-6 June 2026, at The Rinra Hotel Makassar. The conference brought together leading experts, academics, clinicians, and researchers to discuss the latest developments in dentomaxillofacial imaging and its role in diagnosis and treatment planning. Carrying the theme “The Future of Imaging – Imaging of the Future in Dentomaxillofacial Diagnosis and Treatment Planning,” the conference served as an international platform for scientific exchange and collaboration in the rapidly evolving field of dental and maxillofacial radiology.
The opening ceremony was attended by several distinguished guests, including the Vice Mayor of Makassar, Aliyah Mustika Ilham, SE., MAP., and the Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs of UNHAS, Prof. Muhammad Ruslin, DDS, M.Kes., Ph.D., Sp.B.M.Mf., Subsp.Ortognat.D). Their presence underscored the importance of international academic collaboration in advancing dental education, research, and healthcare services.
One of the conference’s highlights was the participation of Prof. Makoto Inoue, DDS, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry and Professor in the Division of Dysphagia Rehabilitation at Niigata University, Japan. As both a distinguished guest and keynote speaker, Prof. Inoue shared valuable insights and emphasized the importance of strengthening academic partnerships between Indonesia and Japan.
The conference also featured an impressive lineup of internationally renowned speakers, including Prof. Takafumi Hayashi, DDS, Ph.D.; Prof. Kei Tomihara, DDS, Ph.D.; Prof. Naoya Kakimoto, DDS, Ph.D.; and Dr. Jin Magara, DDS, Ph.D. Through their presentations, participants gained insights into emerging technologies, advanced imaging modalities, artificial intelligence applications, and contemporary approaches to diagnosis and treatment planning in dentomaxillofacial practice.
Throughout the two-day event, participants engaged in scientific discussions, knowledge-sharing sessions, and networking opportunities that fostered collaboration among researchers and practitioners from various institutions. The conference further strengthened the longstanding partnership between UNHAS and Niigata University while supporting the internationalization agenda of both institutions. The successful implementation of the 3rd International Joint Conference reflects the commitment of the Faculty of Dentistry UNHAS to promoting global academic engagement and advancing excellence in dental education, research, and clinical practice through international collaboration.
