Makassar – Hasanuddin University has added another achievement in strengthening academic quality. Three engineering study programs have received accreditation results from the Independent Accreditation Agency for Engineering Study Programs (LAM Teknik), the Permanent Accreditation Board for Engineering Programs of the Indonesian Society of Engineers (PII).
The three study programs are the Master’s Program in Industrial Engineering, which earned an Excellent rating; the Bachelor’s Program in Geology, also rated Excellent; and the Bachelor’s Program in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, which received its first accreditation (as a new study program). The accreditation results were issued and are valid from 21 August 2026 to 20 August 2029.
The achievement of the two study programs rated Excellent raises the number of Unhas study programs with Excellent status to 157 out of 250, or about 63 percent. This figure exceeds the 50 percent minimum, which is one of the requirements for a university to obtain an Excellent rating in the accreditation of legal-entity state universities (PTN-BH), as stipulated in BAN-PT Regulation Number 35 of 2025 on the Instrument for Higher Education Institution Accreditation, Appendix 3a.
The Dean of the Unhas Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Muhammad Isran Ramli, S.T., M.T., IPM., ASEAN Eng., said the achievement proves that the quality of Unhas’s engineering education can meet the standards set by the accreditation body.
“The Excellent rating is not the final goal, but a sign that we are on the right track and have the capacity to keep improving the quality of engineering education, produce competent graduates, and meet the needs of industry and technological development,” said Prof. Isran.
According to Prof. Isran, the accreditation results also encourage the Faculty of Engineering to maintain the quality it has achieved and to keep developing in line with technological dynamics and the needs of the world of work.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Institute for Quality Assurance and Education Development (LPMPP) at Unhas, Prof. Rini Rachmawaty, S.Kep., Ns., MN., Ph.D., said the growing number of study programs rated Excellent has strategic meaning for Unhas.
“This achievement is important not merely as an accomplishment, but because the proportion of study programs rated Excellent is a necessary condition for Unhas to earn an Excellent rating in the accreditation of legal-entity state universities (PTN-BH),” said Prof. Rini.
Although Unhas has already passed that threshold, LPMPP will continue to encourage other study programs with the potential to earn an Excellent rating through accelerated reaccreditation and intensive support. This effort is intended to make quality achievements stronger and more evenly distributed across all faculties, while also strengthening the Internal Quality Assurance System based on the principle of Continuous Quality Improvement.
The strengthening of Unhas’s academic quality is also reflected in international achievements. A total of 79 study programs have earned international accreditation. This was achieved by meeting the standards of international accreditation bodies, with LPMPP’s support from the preparation and implementation stages through to post-accreditation.
“This affirms that Unhas’s academic quality is recognized not only nationally, but also globally,” Prof. Rini concluded.
This achievement strengthens Unhas’s position in building sustainable academic quality, while also showing the Faculty of Engineering’s consistency in keeping engineering education relevant to technological developments and industry needs. (*/dhs)
