MAKASSAR – Seven decades of Hasanuddin University (Unhas) were also celebrated through the 70th Dies Natalis gala dinner at Baruga A.P. Pettarani on Thursday, 10 September 2026. The occasion was a time to recognize the academic community members who have dedicated their time, energy, and work to the growth of Unhas.

A total of 83 lecturers were honored for their years of service at Unhas: 75 lecturers for 40 years of service and 8 lecturers for 50 years of service.

Recognition was also given to outstanding administrative and support staff who contribute to supporting the university’s services and governance. Unhas presented awards to the managers of Unhas journals that have been indexed in Scopus, as well as to the faculties leading in the development of Integrity Zones (Zona Integritas).

Unhas Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc., expressed appreciation to the entire academic community that has played a part in Unhas’s journey to its 70th year. Appreciation was also extended to stakeholders, heads of agencies, leaders of the regional legislature (DPR), and Unhas’s strategic partners from various sectors who support the implementation of programs and the development of the university.

According to Prof. JJ, campus life needs to give students room to excel while also enjoying a pleasant experience during their time at Unhas. Activities that create a sense of togetherness, such as the gala dinner, are expected to complement students’ academic life.

“I am very happy to see my students joyful, because Unhas is the place where we are brought together: we are serious, we excel, we are serious about how to win competitions, but let us also not forget to be happy and cheerful at our beloved Hasanuddin University,” said Prof. JJ before thousands of attendees.

The celebration grew livelier with performances by national musician Idgitaf and South Sulawesi’s own pride, Ridwan Sau. Idgitaf performed several songs that drew an enthusiastic response from the audience, while Ridwan Sau brought the distinctive musical flavor of South Sulawesi. Their performances closed the Unhas 70th Dies Natalis gala dinner in a warm atmosphere full of togetherness.
