The academic community of Hasanuddin University (Unhas) held a ceremony to commemorate Pancasila Sanctity Day. Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc., personally led the flag ceremony, which began at 07:30 WITA (Central Indonesia Time) at the basketball court at the Unhas Student Activity Unit (UKM) complex, Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar, on Sunday (1 October).

On that occasion, Prof. JJ said in his address that Pancasila is a source of strength in striving to realize our aspirations. Pancasila also serves as a reminder that, whatever the situation and circumstances, Indonesia’s sovereignty rests on social justice and the unity of all levels of society. Therefore, reflecting once again on the values of Pancasila is a good starting point for uniting our aspirations and our steps forward.

“Let us together remember an important moment in the history of our nation’s struggle, namely Pancasila Sanctity Day on 1 October. On this sacred day, we remember the fighting spirit and noble resolve of the nation’s founders in defending and practicing the values of Pancasila, which form the foundation of the Indonesian state. Pancasila is the nation’s philosophy, the foundation that moves us toward noble ideals,” Prof. JJ explained.

Furthermore, the commemoration of Pancasila Sanctity Day is a moment to reflect on the actions that have been and must be taken to strengthen Indonesia as a strong nation, now and in the future. Pancasila is both the initial foundation and the goal in building the nation and the state. How the nation rises and develops depends on the freedom of Indonesia’s young generation to develop their own potential in line with their abilities and their calling.

On the same occasion, the Satyalencana Karya Satya (a state long-service medal) from the President of the Republic of Indonesia was also presented to 23 lecturers and educational staff at Unhas. The recipients comprised 14 people for 30 years of service, 4 people for 20 years of service and 5 people for 10 years of service.

The entire Pancasila Sanctity Day commemoration ceremony ran smoothly until 09:00 WITA. (*/mir)
