MAKASSAR – Hasanuddin University is exploring the development of academic mobility with Süleyman Demirel University (SDÜ), Türkiye, through the Erasmus+ KA171 scheme. The collaboration opens opportunities for student and staff exchange as well as the development of academic cooperation between the two universities.
The cooperation with SDÜ follows up on Unhas’s MoU with SAMDS. Through that network, SAMDS facilitates Unhas in building partnerships with a number of universities that are its members, including Süleyman Demirel University.
Dr. Nurmala Sari, Head of the International Education Coordination Subdirectorate at the Unhas Directorate of Learning Innovation, who represents Unhas in the cooperation, explained that facilitation through the SAMDS network is one of the pathways that brought Unhas and SDÜ together to develop academic cooperation.
“This cooperation is the result of following up on Unhas’s MoU with SAMDS. SAMDS facilitates Unhas in establishing partnerships with the various universities that have joined as its members,” explained Dr. Nurmala Sari.
One of the agendas projected under the cooperation is student and staff exchange using the Erasmus+ KA171 funding scheme. This scheme gives the academic communities of both universities the opportunity to undertake academic activities at the partner institution within a higher education mobility framework.
Erasmus+ KA171 is an international exchange program funded by the European Union to support the mobility of students, lecturers, and higher education staff between European countries and partner countries outside Europe, including Indonesia. The program is part of Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (ICM), which enables students and higher education staff to gain academic and professional experience at universities abroad for a set period.
Opportunities for collaboration can also be developed in education and research through the involvement of academics from both institutions. In this way, the cooperation does not stop at mobility, but can be directed toward joint academic activities in line with each university’s fields of expertise.
The meeting between Unhas and SDÜ took place on 26 September 2026 as part of discussions on following up the cooperation between the two institutions. The meeting served as a space to discuss opportunities for student and staff mobility and the possible development of joint academic programs. (*/dhs)
