MAKASSAR – Hasanuddin University (Unhas) is opening up opportunities for strategic collaboration with Tiran Group in developing outstanding young talent ready to meet the needs of industry. The collaboration was discussed through exploratory talks on the TIRAN Campus Connect 2026 program, an initiative that links the higher education ecosystem with industry by strengthening competencies, internships, and students’ career development.

Tiran Group is a national holding company operating in several strategic sectors, including mining and agribusiness. President Director Rahman Arif explained that the company is committed to building sustainable business practices while investing in human resource development. For that reason, the company sees universities as important partners in preparing graduates with competencies that match industry needs.

According to Rahman, Unhas is the first campus invited to discuss developing the TIRAN Campus Connect 2026 concept. The program is expected to become a partnership model that provides learning spaces within industry while strengthening students’ contribution to community development.

“We want to build a long-term partnership that can produce quality young talent while strengthening ties among education, industry, and society,” said Rahman.

Under this concept, Tiran Group offers several development programs: the Tiran Officer Program (TOP) as a fast track for developing future company leaders, the Tiran Internship Program (TIP) to give students work experience, and the Tiran Opportunity Scholarship (TOS), which supports students’ academic and competency development.

Unhas Rector Prof. JJ welcomed the initiative. In Prof. JJ’s view, partnerships with industry are one of the keys to increasing the relevance of higher education and speeding up graduates’ entry into the workforce.

“We have the capacity to send large numbers of students. The challenge is actually how companies can receive them. Our job is to make sure students are prepared as well as possible so that when they enter the workforce, they are truly ready to meet specific industry needs,” explained Prof. JJ.

Unhas continues to strengthen learning transformation through the development of Competency Strengthening Courses (MKPK). The program is designed to equip students with cross-disciplinary competencies, professional skills, and learning experiences aligned with industry developments.

Prof. JJ hopes these exploratory talks will not stop at providing internship programs or recruiting graduates but will grow into broader collaboration, covering curriculum development, applied research, joint innovation, and the ongoing promotion of the potential of industry and the university.

The discussion took place at a meeting between Hasanuddin University Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa and a Tiran Group delegation led by Rahman Arif at the Unhas Rector’s Office on Monday (7 July).(*/dhs)
