MAKASSAR – A total of 183 prospective lecturers and education staff of Hasanuddin University (Unhas) took part in the 2026 Basic Training for Candidates for Permanent Non-Civil Servant Status (CNPT) for Education Staff and Lecturers, Class VIII. The event was held on Tuesday (1 September) at the Hall of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) at Unhas.

Wave I participants consisted of 32 lecturers and 151 education staff. The training is part of the Latsar CNPT Class VIII, which in total involves 367 participants in two waves. Wave II will involve 184 education staff.

The Director of Talent and Human Resource Capacity Development at Unhas, Prof. dr. M. Aryadi Arsyad, MBiomed.Sc., Ph.D., said in the organizing committee’s report that the quality of human resources is the main foundation for achieving good university governance.

Latsar is designed as an initial stage for participants to understand Unhas’s values and direction of development, including its vision, mission, cultural values, and university governance. “This training is an initial process for understanding Unhas’s values and direction of development,” said Prof. Aryadi.

The training materials cover the BerAKHLAK values, human resource management and career development, academic policy, partnerships and internationalization, internal oversight, quality assurance, entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence, effective communication, national insight and defense of the state, and prevention of violence in the university environment.

In addition to classroom learning, participants also took part in focus group discussions (FGD) and capacity building through outbound activities. These activities were aimed at training communication, leadership, creativity, discipline, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Prof. Aryadi reminded participants that the provisions they receive need to be applied in their professional lives after they return to their respective work units.

Meanwhile, Unhas Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc., in the directions given, gave participants several points of emphasis regarding duties and responsibilities in the university environment. The Rector stressed the importance of administrative integrity, technical competence, readiness for digitalization, service quality, cross-unit synergy, and punctuality.

“An understanding of the tridharma of higher education must also be held by all elements within Unhas. Lecturers carry out the functions of education, research, and community service, while education staff act as facilitators who support the smooth running of various academic processes and university services,” said Prof. JJ.

Technological developments are also driving changes in service patterns. For this reason, participants are expected to keep up with digitalization while bringing innovation to services in their respective work units.

The Latsar CNPT Class VIII runs for four days in each wave. Wave I was held on 1, 2, 3, and 5 September 2026, while Wave II will be held on 15, 16, 17, and 19 September 2026. Classroom learning takes place at the LPPM Unhas Hall, while capacity-building activities are held at designated locations.

Through this training, Unhas gives prospective lecturers and education staff initial provisions to understand the values, work culture, governance, and professional demands of the university environment before carrying out their duties in full.(*/dhs)
