Unhas and Nippon Koei Cooperation Targets Measurable and Sustainable Outcomes
Hasanuddin University (Unhas) and Nippon Koei Co., Ltd. have strengthened their strategic partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the 6th Floor Meeting Room of the Unhas Rectorate Building, Tamalanrea, on Thursday (12 February).
The MoU focuses on technology and infrastructure development, as well as strengthening human resource capacity and governance based on international standards.
Nippon Koei is an international engineering consultancy, particularly in construction, energy, and transportation, based in Tokyo, Japan. The company was founded in 1946. In Indonesia, Nippon Koei has operated since 1967, managing infrastructure projects to international standards.
The cooperation between Unhas and Nippon Koei is aimed at strengthening the campus’s impact in the use of research results and technology transfer. Unhas Vice Rector for Partnerships, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Business Prof. Dr. Eng. Adi Maulana, S.T., M.Phil., stressed that the cooperation is directed at measurable and sustainable outcomes, particularly in developing applied research and infrastructure management systems.
“We designed this collaboration as an output-based partnership, not just a formality. The focus is strengthening applied research, technology transfer, and forming a management unit capable of working to international standards,” said Prof. Adi.
The cooperation model discussed includes providing shared laboratory facilities, establishing a management unit as a technology transfer center, and strengthening the capacity of lecturers and students through collaborative research programs and academic exchange.
“This scheme is expected to produce concrete outcomes such as joint publications, technology prototypes, infrastructure planning models, and research-based policy recommendations,” said the Faculty of Engineering lecturer.
Deputy Chief Representative of the Jakarta Office of Nippon Koei Co., Ltd. Taro Koike expressed appreciation for Unhas’s commitment to building collaboration oriented toward technology development and institutional capacity building.
“This cooperation is important for both institutions because it opens space for more structured collaboration in applied research and technical capacity development. Unhas has strong research potential that can be developed into innovation-based projects,” said Koike.
Through this MoU, Unhas and Nippon Koei are committed to developing long-term cooperation that produces technological innovation, strengthens human resource capacity, and makes a real contribution to infrastructure development and sustainability. (*gie/aya)
