Universitas Hasanuddin (UNHAS) continues to strengthen its commitment to expanding financial support for students through a range of scholarship programs. In 2025, 11,690 UNHAS students received scholarships, representing approximately 34 percent of the university’s total student population of 34,392.

This represents a notable increase from the previous year. In 2024, 9,761 students out of a total student population of 35,823 received scholarships, accounting for approximately 27 percent of all students.

Within one year, the number of scholarship recipients increased by 1,929 students, or approximately 19.8 percent. In terms of overall coverage, the proportion of students receiving scholarships rose by approximately 7 percentage points, from 27 percent in 2024 to 34 percent in 2025.

The increase reflects UNHAS’s continued efforts to broaden access to financial assistance and strengthen support for students throughout their academic journey. Scholarships are viewed not merely as financial assistance, but also as an important instrument for promoting equitable access to higher education and supporting students in successfully completing their studies.

Strengthening Support through the University Endowment Fund (Dana Abadi)

UNHAS’s commitment to providing financial assistance for students is also reinforced through institutional policy. This commitment is reflected in Rector Regulation of Universitas Hasanuddin Number 11/UN4.1/KEP/2025 concerning Guidelines for the Management of the Universitas Hasanuddin Endowment Fund, particularly Article 15, Paragraph (3).

The regulation provides an institutional framework for the management of the UNHAS Endowment Fund and supports the sustainability of university programs, including assistance for students in accordance with applicable provisions.

For UNHAS, financial circumstances should not become a barrier to students pursuing and completing higher education. The university therefore continues to strengthen and diversify scholarship funding through government programs, institutional partners, scholarship providers, and funding sources managed by the university.

Scholarship Coverage Rises from 27 to 34 Percent

Data from the past two years demonstrate a clear expansion in scholarship coverage. In 2024, approximately 27 out of every 100 UNHAS students received scholarship support. By 2025, this figure had increased to approximately 34 out of every 100 students.

This increase occurred while the university’s overall student population changed from 35,823 in 2024 to 34,392 in 2025. The higher proportion of scholarship recipients, therefore, was accompanied by a substantial increase in the absolute number of students receiving financial assistance.

For UNHAS, however, expanding access to scholarships is only one part of a broader commitment to student success. Financial support needs to be complemented by effective academic guidance and monitoring to help scholarship recipients maintain satisfactory academic progress and successfully complete their degrees.

Moving forward, scholarship data can also serve as an important basis for institutional planning. Systematic analysis of scholarship coverage can help the university identify student needs, evaluate the reach and effectiveness of existing programs, and direct financial support toward students who require it most.

With 11,690 scholarship recipients in 2025—equivalent to approximately one-third of the entire student population—UNHAS continues to advance a more inclusive and sustainable approach to student financial support.

The increase in scholarship coverage from 27 percent in 2024 to 34 percent in 2025 reflects the university’s commitment not only to widening access to higher education, but also to creating the conditions necessary for students to remain academically engaged, progress successfully, and complete their studies.
