MAKASSAR – Hasanuddin University (Unhas) held a Grand Tabligh (Tabligh Akbar) as part of the 70th Dies Natalis series of events. Ust. Drs. H. Agung Wirawan, M.Si. appeared as the speaker. The Grand Tabligh was attended by around 1,000 members of the Unhas academic community.
Opening the event, Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc. said that human resource development within universities needs to go hand in hand with strengthening spiritual values.
“Education does not focus only on intellectual development, but also on honing the heart, so that every individual becomes a person of strong faith and the quality of a scholar,” said Prof. JJ.
Prof. JJ said that kinship, harmony, and strong bonds of fellowship (silaturahmi) are important assets in building a healthy academic environment. These values need to be continually strengthened so that the entire academic community shares a spirit of togetherness in leading Unhas toward a better future.
The Unhas Rector expressed hope that the Grand Tabligh can serve as a space for reflection and a source of inspiration for the academic community.
“The 70th Dies Natalis is not only a marker of the institution’s long journey, but also an opportunity to strengthen the human foundation that drives Unhas,” said Prof. JJ.
The message was then deepened by Ust. Drs. H. Agung Wirawan in a sermon that placed spiritual closeness as one of the foundations for building dignified individuals and a dignified nation.
Efforts to build strong human resources need to begin with a person’s relationship with Allah SWT. Ust. Agung Wirawan invited the Unhas academic community to practice the principle of amanu bi rabbihim, namely building closeness to Allah directly by strengthening faith and worship.
“Prayer is not merely understood as a ritual obligation, but as an expression of a servant’s commitment to Allah SWT. This commitment is reflected in the words of the prayer, which affirm that prayer, worship, life, and death are devoted to Allah SWT,” said Ust. Agung.
The message offers another dimension in understanding human resource development. Intellectual ability and academic achievement need to go together with spiritual maturity and character. The balance between the two is expected to shape academics who excel not only in scholarship, but also hold values and a sense of responsibility in carrying out their roles.
The Grand Tabligh is one of the events marking the 70th Dies Natalis of Unhas, and also a space for the academic community to strengthen fellowship (silaturahmi) and engage in spiritual reflection amid Unhas’s journey in developing education, research, and community service.
The event began at 16:00 WITA (Central Indonesia Time) at Baruga A.P Pettarani, Unhas Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar, on Tuesday (8 September). (*/mir)
