MAKASSAR — Developing a maritime vocational education area requires precise planning so that every facility built meets academic and operational needs. To that end, the Barombong Shipping Polytechnic (Poltekpel) in Makassar has partnered with Hasanuddin University (Unhas) to prepare a Detail Engineering Design (DED) as the blueprint for developing the campus area.
The collaboration was marked by the signing of a Cooperation Agreement (SPK) for the preparation of the DED between the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) and the Barombong Shipping Polytechnic.
LPPM Unhas was represented by its Deputy Head for Community Service, Prof. Ir. Muhammad Arsyad, SP., M.Si., Ph.D. Poltekpel Barombong was represented by its Director, Capt. Sidrotul Muntaha, M.Si., M.Mar.
Prof. Arsyad said that for Unhas, preparing the DED is a way for the university to contribute its expertise to the development of vocational education infrastructure, particularly in the maritime field. Research-based planning is expected to produce facility designs that are measurable, functional, and suited to the needs of Poltekpel Barombong.
“This trust is part of carrying out the Tridharma of Higher Education, particularly through contributing knowledge and expertise to support the development of the maritime sector,” explained Prof. Arsyad.
The Unhas team of experts will prepare the design based on the integrated needs of the area. The scope of planning covers campus buildings, offices, a hall, a guesthouse, a polyclinic, and supporting facilities such as a generator room.
“Unhas is preparing the DED document in detail so that Poltekpel can carry out construction more easily. Careful planning is important to ensure that the facilities built truly meet needs and support the educational process,” added Prof. Arsyad.
The Director of Poltekpel Barombong, Capt. Sidrotul Muntaha, M.Si., M.Mar., hopes the DED can be completed soon and used as a foundation for determining the direction of the campus area’s development. The document is also expected to provide a strong planning basis for decision-making and for preparing the construction budget.
“Through this DED, we want to ensure that every campus development plan has a strong planning basis. The results of the study with Unhas will be the foundation for determining Poltekpel Barombong’s construction priorities going forward,” explained Capt. Sidrotul Muntaha.
The collaboration is in line with Unhas’s commitment to supporting SDG 4 on quality education and SDG 9 on industry, innovation, and infrastructure by applying academic expertise to sustainable development.
The cooperation agreement was signed at the Poltekpel Barombong Campus in Makassar on Friday (28 August), and was witnessed by the Head of the Transportation Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM), Dr. Suharto, ATD., MM. (*/asy/mir)
