MAKASSAR – Hasanuddin University (Unhas) inaugurated five professors through a Limited Plenary Meeting of the Academic Senate, as part of the Ceremony for the Inauguration and Acceptance of Members of the Council of Professors, on Wednesday (26 August). The inauguration began at 08:00 WITA (Central Indonesia Time) in the Unhas Academic Senate Room, 2nd Floor of the Rectorate Building, Unhas Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar.
The five professors inaugurated come from the Faculty of Dentistry, the Faculty of Forestry, and the Faculty of Cultural Sciences. They are:
1. Prof. Dr. drg. Maria Tanumi Hardja, MDSc. — Professor of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontic Microbiology, Faculty of Dentistry.
2. Prof. Dr. Asdar, drg., M.Kes. — Professor of Periodontology, Faculty of Dentistry.
3. Prof. Dr. Juni Jekti Nugroho, drg., SpKG SubSp KE. — Professor of Endodontic Biomaterials, Faculty of Dentistry.
4. Prof. Dr. Ir. Budiaman, M.P., IPU. — Professor of Forest Insects and Honey Bees, Faculty of Forestry.
5. Prof. Dra. Herawaty Abbas, M.Hum., M.A., Ph.D. — Professor of Literature, Faculty of Cultural Sciences.
Unhas Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc., said the inauguration of professors is a moment to strengthen the culture of scholarship and open space for broader collaboration, including through interdisciplinary studies and the exchange of ideas across fields of science.
“The position of professor is a responsibility to keep raising academic productivity and to contribute through the advancement of knowledge, research, and innovation. After becoming a professor, do not stop working. On the contrary, after reaching the rank of professor, our productivity must increase even more,” explained Prof. JJ.
The Rector added that the more professors Unhas has, the greater the university’s opportunity to contribute to society through academic work and research. The professors are expected to be pioneers in raising the quality of Unhas’s scientific publications, particularly through publications in reputable international journals.
“I hope the professors who have been inaugurated can take a strategic role in building a productive and collaborative academic ecosystem and in expanding Unhas’s contribution to society,” said Prof. JJ.
The Limited Plenary Meeting of the Academic Senate was attended by the Unhas Rector; the Chair, Secretary, and Members of the Board of Trustees; the Academic Senate; the Council of Professors; invited guests; and the families of the inaugurated professors.
