MAKASSAR, 15 December 2025 — Universitas Hasanuddin (UNHAS) provides free counseling services for students through its Psychology Service Center (Pusat Layanan Psikologi or PLP). The service is part of the university’s commitment to supporting students who face academic, personal, or family-related challenges during their studies.

UNHAS students can access the counseling service at no cost. Through PLP, students can receive professional support from counselors or psychologists, with confidentiality and privacy maintained throughout the counseling process.

Throughout 2025, PLP provided counseling services to 82 UNHAS students. Based on its service records, the cases were grouped into three main categories: academic, personal, and family-related issues.

Personal issues accounted for the largest proportion, representing 65 percent of all cases. Academic issues accounted for 18 percent, while family-related issues represented 17 percent.

Putera Arrum Alwahid, S.Pd., M.Pd., General Administration Staff at PLP UNHAS, said that the center’s 2025 counseling records showed that personal issues were the most frequently reported concerns among students.

“Personal issues reported by students included anxiety, mood swings, self-harm, sleep problems or insomnia, lack of motivation, people-pleasing tendencies, and trauma,” Putera said.

The data indicate that students’ counseling needs extend beyond academic matters. Personal and family-related challenges may also arise during university life and require appropriate spaces for consultation and professional support.

Free and Accessible Counseling for UNHAS Students

To access the service, students first register online. After the registration is received, a counseling administrator will contact the student to arrange an appointment.

At the scheduled time, the student will receive counseling from a counselor or psychologist at the UNHAS Psychology Service Center. The counseling service is provided free of charge for UNHAS students.

PLP UNHAS is located below the UNHAS Central Library at the Universitas Hasanuddin Tamalanrea Campus in Makassar. Students can also access information and PLP services online through the official https://plp.unhas.ac.id/.

Throughout the counseling process, students’ privacy is protected. PLP UNHAS ensures the confidentiality of client information, allowing students to discuss their concerns in a secure and professional environment.

The service reflects UNHAS’ efforts to create a university environment that focuses not only on academic achievement but also on providing appropriate support for students throughout their university experience.

Students Encouraged to Seek Support

UNHAS encourages students to make use of PLP services whenever they feel they need someone to talk to or require professional support. Students do not need to wait until a problem becomes more difficult to manage before consulting a counselor or psychologist.

Academic pressures, personal concerns, or family-related problems that begin to affect daily activities or academic life can be discussed through the counseling service. Counseling provides students with a space to talk about their concerns and explore appropriate ways of addressing them with trained professionals.

With its accessible location on campus, online access to information and services, commitment to confidentiality, and free counseling for students, PLP is expected to become an increasingly accessible source of support for the UNHAS student community.

UNHAS students who feel they need support are encouraged to reach out. Visit the UNHAS Psychology Service Center below the Central Library or access the service through the official PLP website (https://plp.unhas.ac.id/). Counseling services are available free of charge for UNHAS students.
