*MAKASSAR*—Hasanuddin University (Unhas) has secured Batch I funding under the 2026 Research Downstreaming Program worth Rp31.3 billion to support 67 innovation proposals developed by inventors from 12 faculties.

The funding is strategic capital to accelerate the downstreaming of research results so that they develop into products, technologies, and innovation models that carry added economic value and are ready to be used by the public as well as by business and industry.

The funding comes from two schemes under the Diktisaintek Berdampak (Impactful Higher Education, Science and Technology) program. A total of 52 Priority Research Downstreaming proposals received support worth Rp15.3 billion from State University Operational Assistance (BOPTN) through the Directorate General of Research and Development, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. Meanwhile, 15 multi-year Strategic Research Downstreaming proposals are funded by the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP), Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia, with a first-year disbursement of Rp15.8 billion.

Unhas Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc., said that success in securing the funding reflects the increasing maturity of the research and innovation ecosystem at Unhas. In recent years, the university’s approach to research and innovation has undergone a transformation, becoming more oriented toward solving real-world problems through collaboration with various partners.

“Our main target is to ensure that research results do not stop at reports or prototypes inside the campus. Through this support from LPDP and BOPTN, we are pushing for innovations from Unhas to be produced widely, used by industry, and to deliver direct benefits to the economy and to solving various problems in society,” explained Prof. JJ.

The Rector expressed appreciation to the Directorate of Downstreaming and Partnerships of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology and to LPDP of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia for the trust placed in Unhas in implementing the 2026 Research Downstreaming Program.

“We also thank all Unhas inventors for their dedication and hard work, which resulted in 67 proposals receiving funding. This achievement shows our shared commitment to building a culture of innovation oriented toward usefulness. We hope the inventors will keep innovating, broaden collaboration with industry partners, and ensure that every work can make an impact on the progress of the nation and the world,” said Prof. JJ.

Unhas Vice Rector for Innovation and Business Management Prof. Dr. Amir Ilyas, S.H., M.H., stressed that successful downstreaming is determined not only by the quality of innovation but also by the protection of intellectual property and sound governance of partnerships.

“Our task now is not only to conduct research, but also to ensure that all innovation products are protected through copyright or patents. We oversee every cooperation agreement so that it has a strong legal basis, providing certainty for both inventors and industry partners,” explained the Vice Rector.

Unhas Director of Innovation and Intellectual Property Asmi Citra Malina, S.Pi., M.Agr., Ph.D., said that the directorate will continue to assist the downstreaming process, from intellectual property management to the commercialization of research results.

“We want to ensure that every innovation has the opportunity to develop into a product of economic value. Intellectual property protection is an important foundation for increasing industry’s confidence in adopting and producing research results more widely,” said Citra.

Based on the distribution of the first-stage funding, the allocation to the faculties receiving grants is as follows:

1. Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries (FIKP), 16 proposals worth Rp9.66 billion.
2. Faculty of Agriculture, 12 proposals worth Rp7.68 billion.
3. Faculty of Animal Science, 10 proposals, Rp3.83 billion.
4. Faculty of Engineering, 10 proposals worth Rp3.57 billion
5. Faculty of Agricultural Technology, 5 proposals worth Rp2.08 billion
6. Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MIPA), 5 proposals worth Rp1.06 billion
7. Faculty of Economics and Business, 3 proposals worth Rp848 million.
8. Faculty of Forestry, 2 proposals worth Rp1.34 billion
9. Faculty of Public Health, 1 proposal worth Rp373 million
10. Faculty of Dentistry, 1 proposal worth Rp340 million
11. Faculty of Medicine, 1 proposal worth Rp320 million
12. Faculty of Pharmacy, 1 proposal worth Rp125 million.

The 67 funded proposals are spread across four downstreaming schemes, namely:

1. Industry Invitation, 30 proposals,
2. Synergy (Social Innovation), 21 proposals,
3. Technology Push, 13 proposals,
4. Product Testing, 3 proposals.

The funded research covers a range of strategic sectors, including feed and seed technology for mariculture, local livestock breeding, liquid organic fertilizer innovation, the development of healthy food based on local resources, and social innovation models for empowering fishers and village communities. This diversity of themes shows that research downstreaming is directed not only at strengthening industrial competitiveness but also at creating solutions to development challenges in food, health, the environment, and community economies.

The program also contributes to the achievement of the SDGs, particularly SDG 9, SDG 8, SDG 2, and SDG 17, by promoting the downstreaming of innovation, strengthening partnerships, and using research results to support sustainable development.(*/inv/dhs)
